Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Bf'ers - how does your baby do when you eat...

onions, garlic or chocolate, or spicy food?

My pedi said he believes there are no restrictions on food when b/f - but that the baby will taste some garlic and onion and as long as I don't have a lot of it - it should be fine. Has your baby responded well when you have eaten any of the above things?  Or what kind of issues do you have if there are any?

TIA.

  • I eat all of the above and it doesn't seem to affect him. I have noticed if I don't drink enough water or eat enough protein  it effects my supply, but that is it. I think it depends on each person though?

  • My baby was okay with all of those foods in moderation.  I limited spicy foods and wouldn't have any beans or broccoli for the first 3 - 4 months.  I did discover that red sauces (salsa, tomato sauce) would aggravate DD's stomach.  I think it's just trial and error and eventually you will figure out what, if anything, you should stay away from.
