Trouble TTC

IVF Consult tomorrow...Advice needed !

Good afternoon ladies! We go in tomorrow for our IVF consult appointment and I am one who likes to go in with list of questions to ask to make sure I feel prepared! I was wondering if anyone had any insight into what type of questions I may want to ask while at consult. Thank you so much...... I am little nervous about it to tell the truth!

  • I wish you luck tomorrow! Hopefully your RE will be able to cover everything for you but Here are some things to talk over with your doc.

Financial: cost of individual cycles, if they offer a shared risk program, cost if ICSI, cost of embryo storage should you need it, approximates on meds.

His plan for you, what sort of protocol he would have you start with, if he suggests or prohibits any vitamins or supplements, if the clinic batches patients or lets them cycle individually, 3 day or 5 day transfer ::some REs prefer one to the other::, use of ICSI, use of assisted hatching, success rates for the clinic/doc, any preliminary test or procedures not included in the cycle fee that you have to have done before you cycle.

That's a start and I hope your RE will answer all of your questions before you ask them! Good Luck!!

  • Twists did a fabulous job covering most of the basics. :)

I'd also ask about their policy regarding transferring 1 or 2 embryos, how that affects your chances of multiples, and how that affects your overall success rate. You may also want to ask about logistics, like timetables, monitoring on weekends, when/how you need to pay, whether you'll have a nurse to communicate with, etc.

    Good luck with your appointment!

Ours was today.  RE did a pretty good job at walking us step by step.  The only questions I had to ask was if I would be on Lupron (answer was yes) and if he would allow us to transfer 2 embryos (answer was also yes).  Our office has a financial coordinator that calls to give all the charges, so I already knew all of that before I got there.

Good luck to you.  Let me know if you have any questions, looks like we will be going through this together.
