Favorite side-by-side double stroller (for babies 8 months apart)?

I have a three year old son and a little girl on the way in September.  After my baby is born, I will also be babysitting my niece several days a week -- she will be eight months old.  I was thinking that I probably need a double stroller for the two babies, and since they'll both be so small, I'll want a side-by-side so both girls can see.

My ideal stroller would have these features:

  • narrow enough to fit through doorways
  • folds small enough to fit in the back of my Scion xB (not a lot of cargo room)
  • seats fully recline for newborns
  • OK to use for my 36 lb. three-year-old on occasion

It's not important for me to find one that accommodates infant carseats.

What would you recommend?

I have to come out of lurkdom to share my love for the Joovy Scooter X2!

I got mine for $90 on craigslist but it is only $195 on amazon. It is a side by side, not a completely flat recline but close enough (I started using it at 3 months for my infant). I use it for my 4.5 month old and 19 month old. It's combined weight limit is 90 lbs, has an amazing canopy and a huge basket.

Before I owned the Scooter I had an UppaBaby Vista. I liked the Vista since it was such an easy ride, but it was heavy (just as heavy as the double) and I never used the bassinet and for some reason, neither of my girls liked it. They enjoy the stroller now and I don't know the why, but I actually like the Scooter more than the Vista. I miss the telescoping handle (for my husband) but I am only 5'3" and I find the Joovy to be comfortable. The handling is not perfect, but I am mostly shopping or taking walks on sidewalks. I also live in the East Bay and we live in an older neighborhood, but as long as you have some momentum going, the cracks are not a problem. You definitely have to use both hands but I have found that to be the case with all doubles.

The value is wonderful. It fits in our Scion. It is 30" wide and goes through most doors which are typically 32". I really like that the seats are very roomy and I can imagine using this stroller for many more years. Don't discount this stroller! I never thought I'd be happy with a "cheap" stroller but I am such a fan!

  • Yay!  Another East Bay Scion driver!

I was looking at the Joovy Scooter X2.  Is it only rated for 3 months and up?  I would ideally want to find something suitable for use with a newborn (as I'll be watching both babies as soon as I have recovered enough from childbirth to take on an extra baby -- I'm guessing when mine is about a month old).  If it is only rated for 3 months and up, can it take an infant carseat without having to purchase special attachments (as sort of a "stopgap" solution until my baby is old enough)?
