Baby Names

Connor?

I posted the other day about "Elliot" but DH insists he likes Connor more now. (He hated it a couple weeks ago...)

I really like the name Connor; but I hate that it's so popular.

Other names on our list are: Troy, Tent & Vinson. None of which we like as much as Connor.

Anyone have any thoughts on Connor? Or additional suggestions?
I'd really like some fresh ideas that are somewhat-similar to Connor, go well with Hunter (DS) and aren't incredibly popular.

TIA!

  • I really like Connor! And in my world, it's not that popular. I think it pairs well with Hunter. I don't really like Vinson... It makes me think of venison which would be kind of funny paired with Hunter! Trent and Troy are okay, but not near as nice as Connor.

Other suggestions: Chase, Bryce, Tyler. Still like Connor best though!

  • I like Connor, and I don't see a lot of them to be honest
  • I really hope you meant Trent and not Tent.
  • I don't particularly like it, and can think of at least 5 or 6 that I know. That said, I don't like any of your other choice any better, so we clearly have different styles.

Haha! I had totally thought of this which is why it's so far down on my name list; for some reason, DH loves it...I would much prefer Vincent rather than Vinson but DH just won't go for it.

  • My DH liked Connor too, and though I like it, I vetoed it because it's too common.  Don't like Vinson at all...totally reminds me of venison.

  • Our son is Connor and while I will definitely hear it called out at the park or store, I don't actually know any. In all of our library, music, gymnastics and swim classes we have never been in one with another Connor. That said, I am intentionally picking a less popular name for our daughter.

  • I really like Connor! I didn't actually know any until my nephew was born in March and was named that.

Suggestions: Graham, Grant, Hugh, Chandler, Micah, Grady

Graham and Grant are actually on our list as well!! DH can't decide on them though...sigh. I really like them both but convincing DH of anything is seeming to be more and more impossible. I've mentioned Chandler and Micah before, both of which DH hate. -__-
  • I like Connor and I don't know of any.
  • Connor is our boy name choice for this baby!  It was our boy choice for DD, but obviously she turned out to be a girl, we still like it more than 2 years later.  I'm with PP in that I've heard it called out at the park, but other than that have never met any.
  • My son is Connor.

mummyofsix (who posted above) is a friend of mine so my Connor was one of the bazillion Connors she knew who was born in that time period.  She is the only person I know with that experience.  Cool

I know of a few Connors (a friend from college who is on my FB feed has a Connor, for example) and there is one other in my current neighborhood, but I don't hear it that often.  There hasn't been any other little ones named Connor in DS's music or swim classes.  On the other hand, my DD Katherine ALWAYS (always!!!) is "Kate Q" because of other little girls named Katherine/Kate/Katie.

The name Connor, generally speaking, has been falling in popularity over the past few years.  It is not a climber so you won't hear it getting MORE popular over the next few years.  It isn't top 50 right now and will probably never be top 10.

I think you just need to see how popular it is for YOU. I can totally understand avoiding a name that feels tired in your social circle. For me, I love the name William but EVERY.SINGLE. BABY born in my social circle right now is William or Henry. Or William Henry. Stick out tongue

  • Oh, and I disagree that Connor is an "opinionless" name.  I actually get a lot of very positive feedback, particularly from older gentlemen, about Connor.  Much more "strong opinions" than with Kate.  I know some people who strongly dislike Connor too. So, yea, it isn't polarizing like Cohen is, but isn't totally blah.

  • I like both Connor and Elliot.  I don't care for your other three choices.

  • Love Connor. It would be high on my list if it worked with our last name.
  • Love Connor, it's my sons name.  I don't think it's very popular, not now anyway, it was much more popular about 7-10 years ago.  It's a strong masculine name IMO
