Thyroid

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism after my older son was born so this is my first pregnancy on synthroid.  I am on a low does (50mg).  But I am getting nervous because I know how serious thyroid problems can be for the baby.  My OB tested my levels around 7 weeks and they were fine.  But I'm now a little over 12 and was wondering how often any of you are getting tested?

Many of the symptoms (tired, constipation, etc) are similar to both thyroid issues and pregnancy so I really have no idea if I'm having any symptoms.

H&H 9 months to all!

I've been hypothyroid since I was 21 and take synthroid 88 daily. It's no biggie if you're being monitored by a doctor, which it sounds like you are. You should be checked at least once a trimester, which I'm sure your doctor told/will tell you. If you were checked at 7 weeks, you should be fine.

However, if you're concerned, always call the dr. That's what she's there for.

  • I was just lurking from the October board. I had the radioactive iodine treatment, so I take 225 mcg of synthroid daily. During my first trimester, my doctor tested me once a month. Now that I'm in my second, he tests me every 8 weeks. I have not had to increase my dosage at all. It's really easy to control hypothyroidism, so I wouldn't worry. Just get your bloodwork done!
  • I was tested once a month with my first pregnancy. My OB had my general doctor monitor me.

  • I had hyperthyroidism and had the rai treatment making me hypo and I'm now on synthroid. Before getting pregnant I was on a dose of 112mcg. I'm having my levels checked every month and they were off a bit at my last appointment so my doctor increased my dose to 137mcg. My doctors plan is to keeping monitoring my levels once a month and adjust my synthroid as needed. As long as you monitor your levels you should be fine.
  • I take my synthroid daily as well.I should ask my doctor how much they monitor it as well.
