Super bummed.

I usually run 3.5+ miles per day.

After the races this weekend, my ankle swelled up like a balloon.  I didn't hurt it, so I wasn't sure what was up.  My Achilles had been acting up the weeks before the race and I am not positive that it what the swelling is from.

I took 3 days off after the race to recover and let it heal.  By day 3 the swelling had went down.  I did 2 slow runs the next 2 days, but now it hurts and is swollen all the time again.

So....  I guess I need to rest it which bums me.

  • Ugh.  One of my best running friends just had this happen to her last weekend after our last long run (8 miles) before our half-marathon that we've been training for this Sunday.  Her ankle swelled up and was really sore so she went to the doctor and got diagnosed with peroneal tendonitis, which basically means the tendon seperated from the bone. It's an overuse type injury.  She's completely out from running for at least a month, on crutches now, might need a boot, might even need surgery at some point.  I really hope for your sake it's not the same thing!

    Oh no, I hope it heals quickly!  Yeah, make sure you give it a lot of rest.  Don't make the mistake I did and run on it before it's healed.  I made that mistake and ended up injuring it so badly I had to stop running for a couple months.

  • Thanks for the reminders ladies.  I am sure I won't internally combust if I do not run 3.5 miles a day.  Taking a break is much better than not being able to walk!
