WDYT...good VBAC consult?! :-)

Sooo, I had a VBAC consult appointment yesterday afternoon and everything went way better than I had even hoped for.  I'm not pregnant yet, but we plan on trying Spring of next year.  I'm doing my homework now though so I don't feel rushed around once I am pregnant.  Also my local hospital just now started allowing them again and the one and only provider that is doing them is the one who took over my old OB's office.  I wanted to feel her out early.

Things went great!  I went in with my research in hand and she spent about 35 mintues just talking to me about my concerns.  She said that I'm a great candidate and that a VBAC is safer than a RCS (something I knew, but wanted an actual OB to say), she pretty much said she would treat me as a normal delivering woman.  I told her I didn't want inductions or anything artificial.  I want my body to do what I know it can and she said, "ok."  She also encouraged me to labor at home as long as I can...ideally not come in until I'm like 6 cm.  I'm going to hire a doula to help me know when I need to go to hospital.  She just seemed so, "like this isn't a big deal, we can do this."  She said she did tons of VBACs at the other hospital that she came from.  She seemed very encouraging, caring and acted like she will do all she can to make this happen.  She just kept saying as long as you and baby are looking ok...that I could keep trucking.  No time limit on laboring or pushing and she said she would let me go to about 41 weeks.  The hospital doesn't have any strict VBAC rules, just her own judgement. 

I also feel comfortable b/c my mom works with her and called her, "Aunt Cheryl" yesterday.  Said she loves my mom!  My DH also works with her dad and she was amazed at how small the world is.  I think these all seem like good signs to me?  I didn't feel like a number! WDYT?

*Only thing that scares me is that she is the ONLY OB that will do a VBAC!  I kept asking her about the, "what if you are not there?"  She said should would be!  She comes in at any time of day or night for her patients.  Only time she wouldn't be there is if my due date would line up with a possible vacation.  She then said I could then obviously choose to go 30 min out of state to seek care.  She even told me if all else fails and I get there and baby is about to "fall out" and she isn't there...I can refuse to sign c-section papers and the DR there will have to catch.  Amazing to me that an OB would actually say that!  She said not to worry...we can make this work!  She has a high VBAC success rate.  She also explained to me that the only reason the other OBs don't want to do VBACs is because they have to stay on the floor the entire time you are laboring, so they don't want the extra time commitment.  She actually was the dr who fought the hospital to allow her to be able to do them. 

PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps...

    That sounds great - maybe by the time you are ready to deliver, some of the other docs will be more supportive.

    I wish all OB's were like her! I'm so happy you have found a supportive provider! She sounds truly genuine!

    Ty all...I'm pleasantly surprised myself :. Yea, I'm hoping by the time I'm actually due more than just her will be on board!

    Wow, it about sounds too good to be true! What I heard was that I am a candidate (the practice requires 18+ months and the more the better) but that they do continuous fetal monitoring, won't allow laboring in the tub because they do not have wireless CFMs, will not do an induction (my water broke before contractions started last time), and will not give cervical ripening drugs (fine with me since I was completely drug free and progressed just fine but it was because I was laboring in the TUB!). I think they place limits that are meant to make sure that they keep their VBAC success rates high with the last 2 conditions but that scare people off not totally committed with the first 2 conditions.

    Thats great! Since you are hoping for low interventions you could try Hypnobabies. It uses medical grade hypno-anesthesia to deal with the pain of birth and many Hypnobabies moms have faster labors. There are also techniques specific to VBAC success.
