Does your OB call you with test results?

My OB is supposed to call me with test results. They have this system where they leave a voicemail for you in a secure box that;s all your own. Then the service calls you to tell you there's a message for you.

This pregnancy they've been so bad though. No one called with my NT scan results (I think bc they weren't really really great). I had the quad screening a week ago and haven't heard a thing. Of course this is making me a little nervous bc of what happened with the NT scan. I'm calling 1st thing tomorrow AM.

Anyway, just wondering whose Dr calls and who has to call to get the results.

Re: Does your OB call you with test results?

  • My Dr uses the 'no news is good news' rule. If he runs a test and everything is fine, then we just discuss it at the next appt. Surely if something was wrong they would have made it a priority to call or make sure you got the message.

  • My doc or his amazing nurses calls. I have an awesome doc and he is always on top of things.

  • They post any results online and call if it's something serious.  Otherwise, they go over everything at the next appointment.  I've logged in online just for the piece of mind.

My OB did not call me when my pap was abnormal or my urine had blood in it. I was very frustrated. Especially when at 16 w I came in for a check up and they told me to undress for an exam!

They are supposed to call at my office.
  • I would be irritated if they aren't doing what they told you they would. My OBs nurse calls with my results, good or bad. If I were you I'd talk to the OB and let them know its adding unneeded stress!
I used to be a big deal.  Now I'm just old.

  • They don't call me unless there is a problem, and normally won't go over specific results unless something is abnormal or I ask.  They've run about four billion tests so far, so as long as everything looks good, then I'm ok with not knowing every single detail.  I'm a hypochondriac, so I don't need to hear, "well this is a little low but okay," because I'll automatically be thinking I'm terminal with something.  There is also an online system where you can see your results.

No news is good news here, too. We always discuss test results at the following appointment so I figure if everything's fine I can wait.

  • If it's a test through my OBs office, they leave a message for me in the online portal on their website.  Since I've had to get the NT tests done at the hospital I'm delivering at, they call and leave a message on my phone with the results.

  • I only get called for bad news. Or appointment reminders.

  • Depending on what it is depends on if they call. She uses the no news is good news but the nurse tends to call anyway.

  • I have had both calls from the nurse and my OB herself. I am so happy with this practice. I don't recall ever getting a personal call from my old doc. I also don't remember if they called every time after every test. It seemed like my old practice mostly called if something was wrong. But idk, that was two years ago.
