3rd Trimester

this might be a really stupid question...

Soooo.....I know I have to wash every stitch of fabric with super special baby-safe detergent before I even think about it touching my precious newborn.....But what I don't know is, does this also apply for the breast-pump and pacifiers?  Should I go ahead and run that shiz through the sanitizer?  Sorry if this is dumb, I don't usually read these boards or post here....

Re: this might be a really stupid question...

  • Yes. Those products will likely say on their packaging/instructions to sanitize in boiling water before the first use.

yeah, you don't need super special anything. just use a free and clear detergent.

same with the pacis. would you put something in your mouth that you hadn't washed yet? boil if you feel so inclined, but I would just stick in the dishwasher.

  • This is probably really telling about me but yes, I would.... :)
  • I didnt wash my babies clothes in anything other that what I already use! He/she will be rubbing against you, laying on you, snuggled against your clothes. He/she will be exposed to whatever you use for yours so I've always just used what I use and never had an issue.

  • I've used Purex with my babies since day one and they've been fine...it doesn't have a lot of fragrance, dyes, etc...like Tide or something stronger.  I didn't buy that "Baby Water" crap either...but I would at least wash all the clothing and paci's/bottles/nipples, etc.

Dish washer is fine or a pot of boiling water would do the same. Don't over think it and I would save my money on fancy detergents/soaps.

  • You can use any detergent that is Free & Clear, Dreft is a waste of money. You can sanitize that stuff. I used the dishwasher, it gets hot enough.

  • yes go ahead and prewash everthing that way it's already done when baby comes
  • Baby detergents are a gimmick. We have always used tide or all free and clear, with fragrance fee dryer sheets.

Also, we run pacis, nipples, bottles, sippies etc through the dishwasher every night.
