I have been told if I eat too much fruit I am gonna end up with a big baby and I will need a c section. Now one question. However me and my husband were fairly small babies when we were born
This came from someone I know that ate tons of mandarin oranges and raspberries while pregnant. She craved them, and she had a 9.5lb baby boy and had to have a c section because he was so big
Now I crave watermelon, cherries, nectarines, peaches, apricots, and apples. I have also been craving pistachios as well
Definately have not heard this. I ate a ton of fruit last pregnancy and had a 6 lb 5 oz baby.
And by the way...just because you have a "big" baby doesn't mean you will HAVE to have a c-section. My best friend had a 11 lb 7 oz baby vaginally with no complications. (and just as a side note, she did NOT eat a lot of fruit)
well that's a new one on me i have never heard this before!! It seems really crazy and not that factual to me though, i wouldn't buy it! i say eat fruit!
But my doctor hasn't told me what I can and can't have. I've been eating pretty healthy. I lost 22lbs in my first trimester and at my last appointment, I only gained four pounds back. I am 19 weeks pregnant tomorrow and that I feel is impressive since it is my first pregnancy
Ya I was only curious.

Wow is losing 22 lbs safe while pregnant? I am not judging, I honestly have no clue.

I am a bigger person before pregnancy and struggled with weight, and my doctor wasn't concerned as I had the weight to spare. We had a joke running on how I had a nice weight loss program going... Haha but however, I also mentioned that the weight may come back and bite me in the butt and he laughed saying that it may or may not.
I am not seeing an ob but my family doctor right now because I have trust issues and I don't feel ready to see an ob yet.

God gave me a double portion for my inheritance with my little Mighty men 9/19/10 Baby A born at 1:47 am 6lbs 14oz, 20.5inches long. Baby B born at 3:20 am 6lbs 6oz, 19.5inches long. My double blessing!:)

Yeah, a GP is not certified to take care of pregnant women. I'd get a recommendation for an OB ASAP.
Hate to say this, however yes I have issues with doctors who don't know me. Hell, I had one doctor who treated me and perscribed me something I am allergic to when I specifically told him what I was allergic to. Clearly there goes the trust I had in doctors when one just about attempted to kill me because he never listened.
So yes, I see my gp. I know many who do up here in Canada. I have my reasons and when the time comes, I will be reffered to an OB. But for right now, I feel safe knowing someone who can treat me properly. Also I came here to ask a question about the fruit, not be told to find an OB because a gp isn't good enough.
The only circumstance in which i've heard this is if one has gestational diabetes, but in that case, it applies to too much carb/sugar (and resulting weight gain), and i honestly don't know if science backs it up.

I think people are suggesting an OB just out of concern for you because they want you to have the best information and care possible. I know it's hard to accept unsolicited advice though...

not always safe. but for some people dietary changes can cause weight loss (I'm down about 10 lbs) and for some people morning sickness can cause weight loss
Eat your food people. You are pregnant, not made of glass. ~PrimRoseMama
My 22lb weight loss was from Morning sickness not from a change in dietary needs.
Also she just told me her doctor mentioned why she had a big baby. As it was all the sugar from the fruit she had. Ya I think she may have had GD but her doctor probably didn't test her. My doctor does do the GD tests, and monitors baby growth etc. Being from South Africa which is where most of rural Saskatchewan's doctors are from he does have training. And baby is doing just fine.

Generally being pregnant in itself is a change in dietary needs....
And why don't you start finding an ob now? Its better to find one now so you can build the relationship with them instead of taking which ever one you can get when you pop your kid out and they don't give a rats about what you say? If you really trust your doctor, you would trust them to give you a good referral to an ob.
Bah! I had a GP for my first two pregnancies and I would've seen her again but she legally can't care for a twin pregnancy. It was awesome. Not only did she take care of me through my pregnancies, she also delivered both of my babies AND cared for the baby afterward. I DESPISE the thought of being delivered by whoever is available but I have no option. If you feel confident in your doctor's knowledge and ability and trust them, I say stick with them.
This is the first time I have heard this one. Maybe if you have GD, all the sugar in the large amounts of fruit consumption would be a factor. No, I don't think there is any truth to this.

Dude, you asked us our opinions on whether or not we think eating a lot of fruit will lead to a big baby. We told you not usually unless you have in monitored GD. Then you want to argue? You asked for opinions and had your initial question answered just fine.
In addition, You confessed to seeing your GP vs. a midwife/OB. Folks have expressed concern about that because no matter what your GP hasn't had the in depth training that an OB gets. So yes, your GP "isn't good enough".
Find a midwife or OB, seriously.
Bump 101: just because you post about one thing doesn't mean the thread will go the way you want it to go. You opened the door by bringing the info to our attention. Don't get upset when we give you good advice about that too. Don't be stubborn and butthurt. Think about what's best for your baby in the long run [qualified doctor] and not your own wants/needs/comforts.
You might have issues with doctors, but that doesn't mean it's alright to shaft your baby the care he/she deserves because your scared. Woman up!
Being ignorant to people is one thing but bashing them is down right rude. One thing is I asked a question yes it was answered but however why bash people's choice in doctors. I am not going to leave the comfort zone. Baby gets the same amount of care regardless. He at least spends enough time as my appointments run 1/2 each. He checks baby first then checks me over, rather than being rushed in and out. Regardless in choice of doctors, it's our choice. I am in no way putting my baby at risk. There is no difference in prenatal care. I know a ton of people who went and had their gp's as their doctor and everything was fine.
Why should people get all hot and heavy over people choosing their family doctors over ob's. It sure doesn't concern you so butt out of that business.

You need to learn what this word means before you use it.

Ok, so you had one shiitty doctor in the past and that is your justification for not seeing an OB to monitor the health and well being of your unborn baby? Yes, your GP can treat YOU properly, but not really your baby.
And the question about the fruit is asinine. You had one friend who ate a lot of fruit (and probably a lot of other things as well) and had a "big" baby.

You brought up and made it our business, cupcake. If you didn't want feedback on it then you should keep that info to yourself.
You ARE putting your baby at risk because you are using a doctor that is not properly trained to treat pregnant women. The doctors that go to OB speciality don't do the extra training for funsies you know. It's a real speciality.
By your logic my cardiologist, allergist or podiatrist should be qualified to deliver my baby because they did an OB rotation during med school. Really? Stop thinking about your own wants/fears and what is best for your baby. This isn't about me or you. It's about your kid and your refusal to see a trained professional because you are "not ready".
When will you be ready? The anatomy scan? When your water breaks? Some OB don't accept new patients past a certain gestation. Then what will you do?
You are the person who is being willfully ignorant and irrational. You are also gambling with your baby's health. Don't lash out at me because I have the lady balls to call you on your BS behavior. It's shyt, plain and simple.
You refuse to get proper medical care because your scared. Boo friggin' hoo. Stop sniffling and be an adult.
Clearly everyone loves bashing other people's choices.
So you can all go shove your ignorance up your own asses.
I may have mentioned it but there should have been no bashing on people's choices. Again everyone acts like prissy teenagers.
Go SHOVE IT!
I think pointing out that your choices seem like ignorant, selfish and self serving choices that are more about your own wants than the needs of your baby isn't bashing. It's stating very real facts. You are the only one choosing to get upset when people don't agree with you and tell you what you want to hear.
In addition, you choose to act like a toddler throwing a tantrum complete with name calling. Good job! I'm not sure how you are going to manage a baby when you haven't matured yourself. Seriously, you are behaving like an irrational fool.
Why should people get all hot and heavy over people choosing their family doctors over ob's. It sure doesn't concern you so butt out of that business.
Does the bolded mean something else in Canada or did I miss the circle jerk again?
OP, people were not jumping down your throat or being ignorant (which by the way suggests lack of knowledge, that is surely not the case here). They were trying to suggest you get an OB out of concern for your and your baby's welfare. I for one would not want a strange OB, that I hadn't met until 3rd tri, trying to get a baby out of my vag.
Your behavior and the way you have typed your answers suggest you are the one that is in need of some knowledge. No one here called you names, yet you called us all prissy teenagers. Please tell me who was more mature. The ones offering suggestions or the one throwing insults.
Fruit has been my biggest craving since I got pregnant. I loved it before, but now it's in overdrive. I have never heard of eating too much fruit while pregnant in regards to baby's size/health/whatever.
Clearly everyone loves bashing other people's choices. So you can all go shove your ignorance up your own asses. I may have mentioned it but there should have been no bashing on people's choices. Again everyone acts like prissy teenagers. Go SHOVE IT!
