Hi Everyone,
My husband and I have just started TTC. I was on birth control for about 10 years and this is my first cycle without it. We weren't officially going to start trying this month because I thought my body would need a few months to adjust after being on the pill so long.
Before taking birth control, my period was always very regular (28 days) and full of unbearable cramping. However, my period is 2 days late, and 4 days ago (2 days before I was supposed to start) I had a very small amount of light pink spotting and then 3 days ago, I had a very small amount of brown spotting. Now nothing for two days. I had some very mild cramping on the two spotting days, but now there's not even cramping. And I've been peeing A LOT.
My question is, does the egg white CM happen before ovulation or while you are ovulating? I had this CM on the 6th, but we didn't have sex until the 9th. So if ovulation happens after the CM, this makes sense, but otherwise, this all might be wishful thinking.

You can actually get EWCM at any point in your cycle. Sometimes I get it right before my period. Also, not all CM is visible, and can vary during different times of the same day, so you could have had EWCM at times you didn't know about.
Peeing on a stick is the only way to know, "if it could be."

I already answered your question, but I will say it again:
Egg white cervical mucus (EWCM) can occur at any time during your cycle. It is most common during your fertile window, but it can occur before or after as well. Because of this, CM alone is not a reliable way to tell if and when you are fertile.
Based on the information you gave us, we have no way to know if you were fertile on the 9th or not.
Only a pregnancy test will be able to tell you if you are pregnant.
I wonder how women found out they were pregnant before The Bump...

I wasn't asking if I was fertile on the 9th. I am also not asking you guys if I am pregnant. You are not doctors or pee sticks.
I still don't understand the potato comments.
Please remember that I'm new here and new to all of this.
If you read my original post, that wasn't my question at all. That would be a stupid question to ask a bunch of strangers on the internet.
This sure is an unwelcoming, unfriendly, sarcastic community.
"Could it be!?" and your symptoms and period being late are all tell tale signs of a fishing post. Just be honest.

You asked if it could be, meaning could you be pregnant. It may not have been your direct question, but it was there.
When trying to join an online community, it's a good idea to lurk around a while and get a good feel for it's atmosphere. We get literally dozens of questions similar to this one each week. It's also a question you could have easily found the answer to by googling it.
If you plan to stick around, I suggest you read this link and the blog it links to to learn a little bit more about this board, and also for a lot of great information on fertility and trying to get pregnant.
https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/42877040.aspx
We're actually a very supportive community, but you have to take the time to integrate and get to know us.
Her "confusion" isn't confusion, it's willful ignorance of her body and laziness. How hard is it to click through a few threads before posting a question that we get EVERY DAY? How hard is it to read the damn newbie link at the top of the page? How hard is it to GOOGLE her question?
It's not that hard at all. I came here for the first time with a dumb "my period is late but I am getting negative tests" question too. But I didn't post. I took the time to read and learn.
So yeah, POTATO.
I don't believe anyone had been rude to you. In fact, you received nothing but kind answers in your intro post.
Call me crazy, but normally the way to make friends with new people is not to tell someone else how mean they are when they have been nothing but kind to you. But that's just my two cents.
There's a name for you: White Knight.
The title of this post implies that the OP is asking if she could be knocked up.
Op give it about 24 hours... you may shiit out a potato. Wonderful thing about this forum if you don't like it there is a little red x in the top right, click it and don't come back til your skin thickens up. Most of us have taken our own flaming's. It is the internet after all.
OP: EWCM can happen throughout your cycle. Just because you have it doesn't mean your ovulating right then and it also doesn't mean your not. Use OPK's and chart your BBT.

Amandarene... I wasn't talking to you... you were the only one who answered my question.
Everyone else.... I'm a busy professional with a lot more to do than lurk around in chat forums. I had a question, so I posted it. I'm sorry if you didn't understand the question. Asking about EWCM vs ovulation time has absolutely nothing to do with me asking you if I'm pregnant. Again, how would that make sense to ask you people that.
I have looked up my question on Google and on here... it's not answered. I was curious as to the order (or possible disorder of things). I'm very well aware of my body and exactly why a period might be late, a test may show as a false negative, etc. etc. etc.
As it happens, I work overseas in China at the moment so I'm not exactly in an easy position to take a pee test or be around a supportive community that speaks my own language. I was hoping to find support here but I would be afraid to ask another question. I'll say it again: you guys are mean. A bunch of rotten potatos, if you will.
As for my status... have you heard of a rhetorical question. I'm just excited at the possibility.
Thank you for your post liilii080. It seems the only kind and helpful people on here are also newbies.
I don't think I'll stick around. I have a feeling being around this forum would just be stressful and upsetting.
I hope you all get pregnant really soon... nice people because you deserve it and the rest of you so you can stop being so damn bitter and mad at the world.
I'm outta here.
Oh man, you are soooo right, Google doesn't have ANYTHING on the topic.
Oh, but, wow, I just found this link for you! It seems to have the answer to your question!
https://lmgtfy.com/?q=does+egg+white+discharge+happen+before+or+after+ovulation?
Hope that helps! Mwah!
As I mentioned before, I live in China. Other countries get different search engine results and some countries seriously censor those results so sometimes it can be hard to get information.
I have now done some sufficient "lurking" and confirmed that, yes, people here are very mean.
I have also found your "potato" thread. Very mature, guys. I guess you were so eager to use the word potato, most people didn't even bother to read the question.
As I said, I'm leaving now, but I really hope you guys don't use that potato thing on anyone else. Well I'm an adult who is pretty secure in herself and just excited at the prospect have having a baby, you never know who you could run into on here (teen mom, rape victim, unwanted pregnancy, someone trying to concieve after a loss). Your cruel words and jokes remind me of a grade school playground, but they could seriously hurt someone. Be careful with what you say and how you say it. Try to be a supportive community because that's what people need. A lot of you don't sound like you're ready to be moms.
It baffles me people don't try that first.
Anyway OP GL with whatever you are looking for. I wouldn't suggest finding your fertile widow on CM alone.

You can get EWCM anytime in your cycle. Also, being off birth control also means your cycles won't necessarily be 28 days.
I noticed you think a lot of people here are "mean", but isn't it pretty rude for you to tell people they aren't ready to be moms? Glass houses.

ETA: this is long, but hang in there because it's important.
OP, there has been nothing as cruel on this board as the things that YOU yourself have said. Take a second to think about that. Luckily we all have thick skin, and honestly no one cares about the opinion of a drive-by poster. The potato gun may or may not have been jumped on this one, but that can't be helped now.
I have seen many silly questions on here, including questions from women who have suffered a loss, and the responses have been far worse than what you got. In fact, I would argue that the DQC kept people less cruel, because they were trying to fit the word into an actual response. I've read through everything, and nothing that was said to you was all that mean. Was it blunt? Yes, but that's life. It was all true. But if you remove the sack of potatoes that were thrown at you, you have good info, and legit responses.
DQC is silly. I'll give you; immature. It's not everyone's style of humor. But for most of us, it's entertaining, lighthearted, and fun. There's nothing "cruel" about being a little silly. If you toughen up and stick around (which I encourage you to do), it will probably take you only a week or two of reading this board to "get it."
Take a deep breath, and sit back for a second.
Yes, EWCM is supposed to lead up to O for me it happens 2-3 days before, continues during, then ends after O, but many women are different and/or mistake watery CM at other points in their cycle as EWCM. I live overseas, I've spent plenty of time in China, and there is no reason why you can't use google to learn about EWCM. That's a poor excuse, and you know it.
You just stopped BCP, it's going to take some time for your body to get back to normal. Took me almost a year. Some women get pregnant right away, but they are the exceptions. The truth is that your periods are going to be inexplicably late. You are going to spot. None of it means you are pregnant, the only thing that means you are pregnant is a BFP. No one on here is going to give you false hope, which is exactly what your post was looking for.
You should have looked at the newbie link before posting, just like the top of the board says. It would have helped you phrase your question better.
Also, the wonderful thing about this board is that if you read the link and use it the board like you are supposed to, no one is going to hold any of this against you. Despite the awful things you have said.
Ultimately, you proved that DQC works: it forced you to lurk, which is all anyone wanted you to do in the first place.
Gotta love Tuesday's meanies!
*potatoes
You wouldn't be so confused about TTC if you lurked and read the newbie link/blog. I have yet to see one of these posts that could not be answered by doing one or the other.
So, you see, the fact that people answer at all, honest and well thought out answers at that, is very kind. Everyone could just ignore these posts and leave those posters unable to find the super helpful links "confused".

It's doing well. It likes to give me reminders that it is there at random moments, but it's all good!
the problem wasn't her question. If her post ad been titled "? about EWCM", then noone would have assumed that her post was "OMG! I think I'm pasta sauce and want all of yall to tell me I've got a potato baking in my oven!!!" Her valid question was hidden, so yeah, she got a little razzed for it. But if she thinks it's OK to play the Overseas card and call us names, then we're gonna get a little nasty.

Your right- I never was a part of this board, but I always see people turn away from TB as a whole because of the answers they get from this one little part of the board. I hate to see people give up on a community when they can get answers elsewhere (whether it be a stupid question or not) Nothing wrong with that!
It not the way to make friends but most of you do come off as snobs when noobs come in and ask a stupid question. None of the regulars can deny that.
