Rash on my arms only

I have a rash from my wrists to my shoulders on both arms. It doesn't seem to be anywhere else. It looks like a combination of bug bites and red patches. It itches like crazy. I think it might be prurigo of pregnancy, but I am not sure. It just started last night. I took a benedryl and it seemed fine this morning, but now it has flared back up.

I am waiting for the doctors office to open, but for now have any of you ladies seen this?

  • I was just typing this question out, I have the EXACT same thing going on. Never had it with my ds. What do we do about it?

If it is what I think it is, all we can do is antihistimines and corticosteroid creams.

  • I had it on my neck last week and then it moved to my breast and belly yesterday. Today it is gone. Nothing made it feel better. I had something similar last pregnancy (always on my hands though) so I'm not worried about it but it will drive you crazy!

  • Also, the nurse here at school, who isn't familiar with pregnancy rashes, said that it didn't look like anything that I could have gotten from the 4-5 year olds here at my school.

She did tell me to pat on some hand sanitizer and it would take the itch out. It stung like crazy, but it helped the itch.

That sucks, I've been doing that and it only gives temporary relief. Did it say if it stays the whole pregnancy?

Yeah, everything I have read says it can last for weeks or months AFTER giving birth.

  • I had this, still dont know what it was but it lasted about a week and went away, aloe helped a ton.

  • My OB nurse just called back after speaking with my Doc. She said by process of elimination and my description, it is most likely prurigo of pregnancy. The only other thing it could be is a contact allergic reaction. I haven't changed shampoo, body wash, detergent, ect.

The doc said I could go to my PCP if I wanted, but he was pretty confidant that it was prurigo of pregnancy. All I can do is cortizone creams and benedryl.

  • Im pretty sure thats what I had as well and it was pretty short lived, hope it is for you too. Did they say whether or not you could use aloe?

  • I have had this same problem for the past 3-4 weeks and it's driving me nuts!  My rash is mainly on my arms but also on my rib cage, upper chest/collar bone area and some spots on my legs and hips.  I've been taking the medication prescribed for morning sickness (the one the gave me is a mix of antihistamine and vitamin B) and it helps for a few hours but then the itching comes back.

I do have contact allergies but I use only hypoallergenic products so unless I've developed a new allergy it shouldn't be caused by that.  The best part is that I've heard calamine lotion is safe to use during pregnancy BUT I am allergic to that so if I use it I'm afraid the rash will just get worse!!

My next appointment is on Friday so I guess I'll see what the doctor says.
