sorry - another pack n play question

I still have alot to learn...

I'd like to use the pack n play for our baby to sleep in our room during the first few months. Does baby sleep in the napper or in the full base of the play yard during that time? I see they all come with a changer, but not all with a napper. Is the napper worth it? In what instances do you use that?

ETA - And if the pack n play comes with a bassinet thingy that you can remove, that doesn't take the place of a bouncer does it? Some of the pack n plays seem to say they vibrate or come out for individual use..?

I think you have a few things turned around.

Newborn Napper ? the thing that looks kind of like a bouncer. It is padded and not flat. The napper is NOT intended for sleep at night. Baby should be supervised. Picture below:

    Bassinet
? Raised bed that is flat and firm. This is where baby should sleep if you are using the PNP for nighttime use. Picture below:

I personally see the newborn napper as an extra that is not needed at all. I have never purchased a pnp with one, because it just seems like a hassle. I do, however, use the bassinet. There is no way you want to reach to the bottom of the pnp those first weeks. We had a RNP (Rock N Play), swing, and PNP. RNP and PNP were on different floors.

We have the Haven Aprica, but I am really loving the 4Moms PNP.

This was so helpful. Thank you! I was totally confused by all the "compartments" for baby! OK, sounds like a bassinett is all I need. I was getting confused by the napper - and didn't feel like I needed it at all for the actual PNP but wasn't sure if it came out and did something else special that was worthwhile. Thanks!

I agree with PP, newborn napper is totally not necessary. We had a pack n' play with newborn napper and changing table and we never used the newborn napper and barely used the changing table (it was not sturdy at all). Just get a pack n' play that has a bassinet setting and you will be set!

I'm confused now....do all PNP not have the adjustable bottom that raises up? This is only if it says bassinet? Please help! I was looking at them this weekend and there are so many choices!

The most basic PnPs don't necessarily come with the bassinet (the raised portion).  So yes, if the PnP says bassinet, then it comes with the raised part.

As for the newborn napper, as PP said, it's for supervised naps only.  We have a PnP that has bassinet, newborn napper, and changing station.  I must say that I LOVED the newborn napper!  DS napped in it for his first 3 months until he outgrew it.  I was so sad when he did... he napped so well in the napper.  Because of its shape, it's very cozy and snugly, and that's what newborns love.  DS would nap for 3 hours easily in the napper.  [Our pnp was in our living room so that's where he napped during the day.]

The changing table, OTOH, was rather useless.  It doesn't have enough support so it tilts once DS was around 10 or 12 lbs, so DS was sliding off.  We still used it but only after DS built a wooden board to put it underneath the table for more support.

My DD sleeps on the raised flat portion. Once she's sleeping in her crib I will lower this for her to play in.
  • You don?t really need the newborn napper but if you really want one just get it! We never used one. With a pack n play I recommend the MamaDoo Kids mattress topper! It makes a huge difference in their sleep!
