Anyone Who Charted While TTC

At your first u/s, did you tell them you know when you O'd and essentially conceived? What'd they say?

We had our first u/s today and I told the u/s tech that I O'd on CD23, not CD14 like "the norm" and that I knew when I would've conceived. I didn't feel like she cared at all and said that my EDD is still going to based on LMP. So, are you going by your calculated EDD or what your doc is saying? Just curious.

  • My OB did the same thing when I told her I was charting with DS2, kinda just looked at me like "Yeah, so what. We'll use the LMP anyway". Kinda bummed me out.

Same story here. LMP for me is only one day off though. OP, charting will at least give you peace of mind though when you're off a few days from your u/s to LMP due date.

The most acurate is going by what the u/s measures. I temped and new when I O'd because of opk and that's different from my lmp and u/s, by a few days.

I charted, and yeah, my EDD is still based on LMP, not on O date.  I figure they'll change it based on measurements later on.

  • Mine always go by LMP.  They don't get the charting thing... Which I find strange.  But they are great otherwise, so whatever.  The great thing is, YOU know when you ovulated, so you know its ok for your little one to be behind, since you ovulated late.  I'm assuming they said you were behind when they did the u/s?  The due date will change later anyways when the growing evens out.

  • I go to a midwife and have delivered several babies with her.  She now believes my charting dates and we go by that.  This time she didn't have much choice since I never told her what my LMP was since I forgot to bring that info to the appointment.  I told her my due date and that was that.

  • They go by your LMP because its the easiest and most common form of dating throughout hospitals and medical practices. A lot of women can at least remember when their last period was so it became the standard, even though its technically incorrect. Its sort of dumb but what are you going to do. In the end it doesn't matter either way because baby will still come whenever he wants. But it's something you can at Least have for you.

  • My doctor just uses LMP unless the first u/s shows a difference of several days. He thinks charting is interesting, but unnecessary. I love my doctor, so whatever. I always go by his date.

I ovulated on CD 21. Based on LMP, they would have had me at Dec 1st. I'm duee Dec. 9th, and my first U/S measurements matched up with my O date.

  • For my pregnancy with DD, they didn't care when I told them I knew when I ovulated (late) but I was measuring on track.  For this one, I had to get betas done and told them when I ovulated.  They wrote it in my chart and I reiterated it at my ultrasound at 6 weeks.  Had I not known, the baby would have been measuring a week behind and I'm sure there would have been unnecessary worry.  Thankfully they listed to me this time.

For DS I charted so I know I O'd on CD23. DS was measuring on schedule for my O date but a week behind LMP edd. They dr had me come back the following week to make sure that's what is was and then changed my edd to match O.

For this lo I O'd on CD16 so it matches LMP edd.

  • My US and charting O date lined up to be the same. Put me 1 day ahead of my lmd. She went by my ultrasound date

  • I had mine yesterday and she asked me how far along I was. I said 7w5d based on ovulation. I said I have 31 day cycles. She was fine with that. Baby A measured exactly with O day and Baby B measured on with O+1.

So FF was right on the money. Except FF didn't tell me I was pregnant with twins. Stick out tongue

Actually...they measured the baby at 10w1d and if I go by O date I'm 9w5d. So the baby's measuring a little bigger than what I thought.

  • For now, I guess I'll just go by what the u/s said and go with 10w1d. Like y'all said, I'm sure they'll change it up as I go.

  • I know exactly when I ovulated, because I was on fertility treatment. I ovulated on CD 25. When another doctor not my RE asked when my LMP was so he could calculate my due date, I just lied. I counted 14 days before my O date and gave him that date. No problema. I know this will give them an accurate due date and I didn't have to fight or worry without reason.

mine said the same thing and i triggered ovulation. just go with what they say. it really doesn't matter anyway, EDD is just an estimate.

Same thing happened to me when I was pregnant with DS and I'm sure it will be a problem this time too. With DS the difference was over 2 weeks and although they usually go with the US due date, my first doctor was a witch, wrote down the wrong date because she wanted to use LMP and wouldn't change it. When I changed doctors it was a big fiasco because my ultrasounds were constantly 1 and a half to 2 weeks behind. I even had to go see a specialist because they were worried about dwarfism and other medical problems. I lied about my LMP a day or two this time so it would only be a week difference. I'm hoping I can have an ultrasound earlier than 19 weeks so we can date the pregnancy. I go to my dr on Thursday so we'll see how it goes!

Great!  Also, this early on, it's normal for the measurements to be off by a few days.  So you are probably right on track, or you've got a quick grower.  Either way, not a bad problem to have. :)

  • I had a similar experience as you did. I am choosing to go by what the doctor measured my baby at. (partly because I was 3 days off) but we are keeping the same due date, because I was not off by 5 or more days.

Same here. The funny thing is, the difference between O date and LMP is only a difference of a day or two -- I O'd early (for me) on CD 16 when I got pregnant, so I guess it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. But my OB didn't seem to want to put much stock into my charting either....they just wanted to know my LMP.

  • I don't tell them only because they'll do a dating u/s and go by that rather than LMP so it's still within a day or two. Wouldn't really make a difference.

  • I didn't say anything at my first appointment because it was only a two day difference. They used my LMP and I'm not sure that they would've done anything differently had I said it was a week off or something like that.

When they sent me down for an ultrasound the date they gave me was spot on with when I ovulated. They said the OB keeps their LMP EDD anyways, but they'll base it on the dating ultrasound. Kind of weird but oh well.
  • My LMP and O date were only a couple of days off, so I fudged my LMP to match with my O date. And my u/s measured exactly on at 5 weeks, 4 days last week. Early u/s is the best determination of EDD.

Yup, I O'd on CD21 and they completely glossed over that.  I told the US tech and my OB's nurse practitioner, but it wasn't until they did the US that they said *it's possible* my EDD might be week further out than they expected.

  • with my last pregnancy they used my LMP, but based off my charting my OB and I agreed that I was probably due a week earlier. But I was a VBAC hopeful, so it actually bought me more time but using my LMP and having a later EDD.

I still didn't go into labor, lol.

  • My doc used LMP even though I knew my O date. Charting put me 6w4d, LMP put me 6w0d, u/s put me 6w3d. She said u/s was closer to my charting but she was sticking with LMP date anyway. I'm keeping with my O date.
  • That's why at my first appointment I told them I couldn't remember when my LMP was because I knew I had o'd CD23. That way they did an U/S and my due date lines up with my charting.

My OB went by my LMP until the 1st ultrasound even though I knew my O date/conception date. He wanted the ultrasound to confirm it I guess, and it did right on. I also O'd late so my due date was off by a week.

  • Mine are pretty close (by LMP 12/12, by O date 12/15) and the baby measured exactly with my O date on the ultrasound, but the doctor told me they would still go by my LMP, so that's what I'm going with.  But, with only a 3 day difference, it doesn't seem like a big deal.
    {Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker}
  • Going by my LMP my EDD is 12/9 but going by when I O'd my EDD is 12/7. I told my doctor at my appt on Monday that I charted and knew when I ovulated and he changed my EDD to 12/7 from the12/9 and on my ultrasound the baby actually measured 2 days ahead of that but I'm sure the doctor will still leave it at 12/7.

  • Even the most progressive doctors seem to go by LMP. Our growth is spot-on for the Ovulation date, though.  Even with the DD, they say its +/- 2 weeks.
