BTDT: Did you poop on the table?

Show of hands please!

And is it weird that I am not scared or concerned about pooping on the table?  I figure they see that sh!t all the time (pun intended), so what's one more BM?

SURPRISE! BFP: 12/2014 - EDD: 8/13/15

We made plans and God laughed

DS: BFP: 9/30/12 - EDD: 6/9/13

Radley Quinn was fashionably late via induction on 6/17/13

  • I have to have an RCS so I'm sad ill never get to experience it. I'm sure it makes for good stories later!

    Nope.

I spent about two hours of my labor on the toilet 'clearing out,' though. Your body tends to prepare in that way.

  • I don't think I did but who knows, I couldnt really see either. All I know is that I think it was all out beforehand..some women, including myself, get the shits for a few days leading up.

I have no idea.  If I did they didn't mention it, which I prefer.

  • I did the first time, but not the second time. Wasn't really a big deal. They do see it all the time, and they whisk it away so fast that I'm not sure my husband even noticed.
  • I did the first time. The nurse walked away for a second and I looked at my husband and said "something smells like crap!"..he kind of laughed and said, "yeah, well you kinda poopied :(" pretty funny I guess...I guess that's what the nurse was walking away with after cleaning me off.

According to my husband, no.  I don't care to know if he is lying.

  • I'm pretty sure I did.  When I first started pushing, I don't think I was doing it correctly.  And then my MIL said "don't worry about pooping on the table, just push!"  As soon as she said that, I did push like I was going to poop, and sure enough baby came soon after.  DH said he saw the nurse swipe something away, and like PP said, they do it all the time!

  • Not sure, but it's possible...you really do have to push like you have to poop in order to get the baby out! My friend who is a labor and delivery nurse says that more women do than people realize, but most don't even realize it because they clean it up really fast and don't tell you.

Every single younger female I know that is open and honest with me has admitted to pooping during vaginal delivery (sister, all 4 SILs, and friends). What's funny is that women in older generations always say no (my aunts, my mother, MIL, grandmother, etc.).  Two of my co-workers wives are L&D nurses and say that it happens almost every time; somtimes women are aware of it and sometimes not (so they might not think they did when they, in fact, did). Nurses just scoop it up and continue on.  So I tend to think it happens much more often than not or is admitted.  As for me, I had a c/s so I did not poo, but I did spray a little when they were draining my water!

LOL. this was me when I gave birth to DS1. I had no idea I was pooping, and all I could smell was shiit. I thought someone farted in the room....turns out it was me! I was embarrassed!

This was me too! I could smell it but if I hadn't asked if it happened then I wouldn't have ever known. The nurses don't make an issue of it.......though I'm sure DH would have told me eventually.

This may be because older women were often given enemas in the beginning of labor.
  • I have absolutely no idea but I did fart in the nurses face, like literally... she was down there starting to do the catheter (right after the epidural) and I ripped one right in her face. It was so embarrassing I almost started to cry, I had absolutely no control over it and she laughed and said it happens all the time... bless those L&D nurses' hearts.

  • Nope, but I did pee a ton with every push.  After my water broke so much pressure had been relieved and it was crazy how much I had in my bladder.

  • No I didnt. I wasnt too surprise though. I had a couple colon-cleansing poops while in labor. Combine that with no food while in labor, and I had a poop-free delivery. Woo hoo!

I don't think so.  At least DH said I didn't.  Although he would tell me if I did.  He doesn't really hold much back.

  • Not only did I poop on the table but a portion of my cervix wouldn't soften and I swear(!) it felt like the dr stuck a finger in my butt-hole and used that to pull things down to try to get his head out at one point.

This was after he stuck BOTH hands inside of me trying to ease him out of my cervix.

  • Yep. "Dingleberries" according to my husband. I spent most of early labor on the toilet so I'm glad there wasn't much to push out.

    Gross but natural, eh?

  • I most certainly did. There wasn't a lot since I was in labor for almost 22 hours and barley ate a thing, but it happened.
  • With Skippy, I did - many times - even though I'd had diarrhea every hour for 3 days leading up to labor... good times, good times...

  • You should find out who puked during delivery. That's apparently just as frequent as pooping.

  • I asked my husband and he said no. I always have frequent loose stools while pregnant so I'm pretty much cleaned out at all times so there probably wasn't anything in me!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I don't think I did. I asked DH and he said no but I could see him not telling me. My system definitely cleaned itself out that day during early labor so there might not have been any left to poop out during delivery. I did pee while pushing though.
