7 weeks but measuring 8

We went for our first prenatal appointment yesterday. Our estimated due date is December 25.
I know I am only 7 weeks along, but the doctor said baby measures at 8 wks 4 days.

My question is does this happen a lot?

    I don't think it's very common to measure that far ahead, but its not bizarre either. I do know that in an early ultrasound measuring ahead can mean a change in EDD.  Did they change your due date?

    How do you know you're 7 weeks? Were you charting? You may have ovulated earlier than you think.

    They didn't change my due date.
    I know I'm 7 weeks because my husband and I were not intimate prior to our honeymoon.

    Yes it is. As long as you aren't meAsuring more than week difference in comparison to your EDD, calculated based on your LMP. Your date generally shouldn't change. In the second trimester, it can't be more than a two week difference. And, third trimester, can't be more than a three week difference otherwise the date changes to that of the U/S. that's why the first trimester U/S is so important. Don't worry, this is very common.

    Are you counting from your last menstrual period?

    Ok, well, without having exact dates, its hard to speculate. Also, sperm can live for up to five days waiting for you to ovulate. I think you probably ovulated early. And like a PP said, measurements can be off by up to a week this early on.

    This happened to me yesterday at my U/S. Based on my last ms, charting, and 6 week u/s, I was suppose to be 10 weeks 5 days. Instead I measured 11 weeks 3 days, which would give me a due date of 11/29. All the doctor could say was that the baby had really good growth.
