S/O ear infections

Just curious, how many ear infections has your LO had?

I recall seeing lots of posts of LO's getting repeat ear infections and some getting tubes. Gator has never had one.....YET, I should say. But we could win a medal for the number of times we have dealt with croup....

Re: S/O ear infections

  • Lo has had 2 I think. E had none when he was a baby/toddler.

  • I don't know. C never went to the dr without having one, even when he was going in for just a check up or a fever. So he constantly had one almost his whole first year. I believe some kids are just prone to them. Our dr said something about the way C's inner ear was shaped. I have also heard that it is genetic, J had a lot of ear infection and actually has some hearing loss because his pedi didn't think tubes were necessary. There's really not much you can do. I have heard ff babies get them more often, so I thought bfing C might help, but obviously it didn't. I am going to blame genetics.

T hasn't had any (knock on wood)

Same here, although L is still not feeling well (threw up twice, conjunctivitis, fever off and on, runny nose) The doctor said she is just teething when I brought her in last week... We have her 18month apt tomorrow so hopefully no ear infection has surfaced since then.

Just one, though my MIL diagnoses him with one every time he touches his ear.

  • 2 + 1.  I say it that way, and not 3 because the 3rd was as a result of bronchiolitis/pneumonia and for some reason, the doctors don't consider that a "normal" ear infection.  Something about it being part of that illness and not something that wrongfully develops from a minor cold.

Had that 3rd been from just a cold, she would have had to have seen the ENT and get checked.  Luckily, she has not had one since that 3rd in December.

  • None. We've been lucky . . . so far.

I wonder what makes some kids more likely to get them frequently. I had them all the time when I was young.

  • We had our first one a month ago. DD had a protracted cold and just as she got sick we flew on an airplane and I think that kind of contributed to pushing that junk into her ears. Fortunately everything resolved with a course of antibiotics.

This made me LOL. That is totally how my aunt is every time Gator touches her ear if she's whining because she's exhausted. "She is pulling out her ears she must have an ear infection!"

  • I'd say maybe 6-7?  I'm banking on another one this week too since he has a cold.

  • DS had 11 double ear infections by 13 months then got tubes. I don't think he's had another, but his ears did drain last week (it was as disgusting as it sounds).
