Success after IF

**** ROARINGROCK ****

Jack WAS very tongue tied - we actually did have his frenulum clipped when he was just 4 days old (by that time my boobs were already cracked, blistered and had black scabs on them) - but we never quite got the latch right and they just got worse until I took him off the breast.  I was told nipple tissue heals fast and they'd be better in a couple of days - well here we are two weeks later and while they are a little healed - I still have sores and now  the area around my areola is inflamed and itchy.  HOPEFULLY this antibiotic is the right answer (and it's bacteria and not fungus .. if it's yeast .. antibiotic will make it worse .. ay yi yi!! Indifferent )  So we'll see.  And because I am insane .. I'm still pumping and still hoping to get Jack back on the boob.  He latched on today with a nipple shield so there's hope.  I am crazy though.  Certifiable.  ha!
Wheee!

Re: **** ROARINGROCK ****

  • OUCH!!! man! I feeeeeel your pain. I'm so sorry.

I just recently threw out the cream I had been using (along with the sitz bath, tucks, stool softener etc etc.) it worked brilliantly. I wish I could remember the prescription. when I was first pumping with the infection the milk was pink -- thanks to bleeding nipples. nasty, I know.

if you're itching now then you must be healing which is great. the hardest part for me was trying again. I was practically shaking. a total nervous nelly. I worked with a LC for a loooong time. I was desperate to BF! in the end my body simply would not produce enough milk. this is why ginny ended up admitted to hospital with severe jaundice and dehydration. it was a horrible time.

it sounds like you are on the right track -- pumping and using the nipple shield. awesome! I was able to finally get a good latch and "part-time" BF for the first 3 months. it got to the point where ginny got frustrated because of the lack of milk so I threw in the towel. "A" for effort though. you're in better shape than I was. it's still so early. I bet you'll be fine!

    :)
