Crazy Back Pain

Anyone else having major back pain issues? It started out just being between my shoulder blades. Yeah normal from curling over the baby feeding her, rocking her, etc. Plus I found out it gets worse when I sleep on my sides. I curl forward then, too.

My lower back however is even worse! It went out 2 weeks ago. It'd been hurting longer than that. I saw a chiropractor after it went out but it's 50 a visit and we can't afford that since I just lost my job. It half way went out earlier this week and then went out again yesterday! So painful getting up, sitting down, lifting Elsie. It goes out doing the strangest non strenuous things too: bending over to pick up light things. Apparently I've been treating my back badly. I thought I was lifting her properly. Guess not. Read that after birth because your abs are all stretched they don't support your back well anymore.

Anyone else have such problems? What are you doing for your back? I'm going to go take more Advil, get some more ice, and wait for DH to come home with a brace so I can function before it is all strengthened again. :/

Re: Crazy Back Pain

  • I know back problems are common for the exact reasons you talked about (posture while breastfeeding, constantly holding/lifting baby, your core not being strong).  I haven't had recent problems, but I 'threw out" my back right about this time with DS.  I had injured it like a year or so prior to that and then reinjured it again with him.

Have you checked into whether your insurance covers chiro care?  A lot will, especially if you can get a letter of recommendation from a doctor.

    Maybe look into core-strengthening exercises?

I don't really know anything else to suggest, but I remember how terrible it was to be injured with an infant.  It was hard for many reasons.  Sorry :(

  • I'm having horrible back pain while breastfeeding sometimes, picking her up, rocking her all those things. When I lay her in her crib if I bend over to pat her back as she's falling asleep it takes me awhile to be able to Stand up, so painful. Haven't talked to a dr about it yet. My mom told me it runs in our family. I try and get as many back massages out of my husband as I can. But still very painful....I didn't think about the ab muscles not being supportive enough.

Same here! My upper back is a horrible knotted mess. I've been to a massage therapist a couple of times and while it does help for some days after it comes right back full force.  I think posture might have something to do with it. Also like PP said, the core muscles aren't doing their job very dwell so doing some excercises to strengthen those may very well do the trick.  I am just looking into Chrio as some of my mommy friends recommended it.
