My MIL loves to crochet, and when Nora was younger she made us some lovely longies and soakers. I lanolized them according to instructions I found on the Internet (https://www.tushclothdiapers.ca/woolcare.html) but as soon as Nora peed in them they were soaking wet. This isn't normal, is it? She is quite a heavy wetter, but I expected them to get a little damp, not soaked through.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what I might have done wrong? I would love to have her crochet some longies for the new baby.
(Here is a pic of Nora getting into trouble while wearing the soaker. Note the big pee mark on the front)

Wool covers tend to work a little better if they've been slightly felted before using since that helps to seal up the gaps and holes and tighten everything up. But if these fit your dc really well then you probably can't felt it or it will tighten up a bit and won't fit any more.
You should still be able to lanolize and have a pretty decent cover despite that, it just won't be quite as waterproof.
Here's my method - it's easy and has been really effective.
Between lanolizing I wash with ewe need it wool wash but that's not going to be strong enough for a total lanolization. If I think I need to lanolize (usually every month and half to two months - I wash every 3 weeks) then I just bust out the Lansinoh.
Rinse your cover with tepid water and very lightly squeeze the excess water out. Fill your sink with tepid water and put your cover to the side.
Heat up some water in a tea pot or in the microwave. Add a nickle to quarter sized amount of lanolin to a lidded jar (peanut butter, canning jar) and add the water. Toss in a squirt of wool wash or mild soap (baby soap works great), this will help to break up the lanolin so it doesn't get all clumpy. Put on the lid and shake it up until the lanolin has broken down into the water.
Add the lanolin water to your sink and swish it around. Put your cover/covers in the sink and squeeze gently to be sure that the lanolin is getting into the wool fibers. Let sit for 15 - 45 min. I always let mine sit for awhile. Occassionally pop back in and give the wool a gentle squeeze.
Remove cover from the water and gently squeeze out some of the water. Roll the cover up in a towel to remove the remaining bulk of the water and air dry.
Hope that helps!
