Fever with no other symptoms

We have been hanging out at the house all day because DS randomly woke up with a 101 fever today. No other symptoms. No runny nose, no colored snot, no vomiting or runny stools. He's not tugging at his ears at all either. He is extra cuddly but after medicine he plays and eats just fine. We cancelled all our MD plans expecting other symptoms to show up but nothing has so far. We can't think of anyone else who he has been around who is sick either. What gives?! Would 2 year molars produce a fever that high? I want to try and salvage the day by going out to dinner somewhere, but I don't want to be that mom who brings a contagious kid out of the house. WWYD?

Re: Fever with no other symptoms

  • I would say go. Take some things to keep him super occupied or his sleep stuff. Sucky or blanky. Michaela had high fevers with teething before and that was all, no other sick symptoms. Hopefully everyone feels better soon.

  • That stinks!  If he's been acting fine in general all day, I'd probably try to go out to dinner.

M also woke up sick today with a fever and stuffy nose and (I think) a sore throat.  It has not been the most fun Mother's Day :(

  • I say go.  My pedi is a firm believer that teething doesn't cause a fever, but that doesn't mean that it still can't be something minor.  A true definition of a fever is 100.4 degrees, so he's not much higher than that.

That being said, it could eventually turn into something but I wouldn't worry about it at this point.

This. And the last time DD had an ear infection her only symptom was fever when normally she tugs on her ears.
