Face rash

LO has a rash on his face, probably from all the drooling and sucking or chewing on everything. For example, I took him for a walk in the baby carrier today, and he chewed on the straps the entire time.

His day care provider gives lots of unsolicited advice, and she said I should put aquaphor on it. However, I'm reluctant to put products on his skin, especially since he's not 6 months yet, and he's always putting everything in his mouth. The rash isn't always there, it doesn't look too bad, and it doesn't seem to bother him. What do you ladies think?

Re: Face rash

  • If its not bothering anything then you don't need to put anything in it. If you decide you want to, aquaphor is fine. Our LO had really dry skin at birth and they gave us that in the hospital.

  • Rashes can be signs of lots of different things, so I'd call your pedi just to be on the safe side.

My LO had sort of a scaly cheek and Dr diagnosed it as exzema and has us put aquaphor on it.  It wasn't red or bumpy.

As products go, aquaphor is pretty mild. But if you don' tknow what the rash is, it may not help.  (and it's pretty greasy and goes everywhere, so be prepared to get it on your clothes, too).

  • Sometimes I will put a really thin layer of vaseline on K. Rubbed in good. It keeps the moisture from absorbing into his skin, and instead of wiping the drool I dab it.

I put lanolin on DS's face when chapped from teething/drool. Then no worries if a bit gets in his mouth.

  • Any solids you've given? Just want to rule out allergies... Benjamin has excema. Red, scaley, and sometimes wet and oozy. We use cetaphil. His was severe so we were using it a every diaper change. It's just now clearing up after a month of use. Your pedi will know what it is when they see it I'm sure.

  • I put vaseline on L's chin at night and it clears it up overnight.

  • H has the same thing on his chin. It gets progressively worse during the day when he is up and drooling but goes away over night. I dab his drool instead of wiping so it doesn't irritate.
