December 2011 Moms

ER trip this early am

So G woke up at 2:30 this morning and he was having a really difficult time breathing. Had constant stryder even when he was calm and was breathing in short quick breaths and he was clearly exerting a lot of extra effort to breathe. Called the pediatrician and asked for an emergency call back. Dr called back after 20 agonizing minutes and she tried to talk me out of going to the ER, at that I told her I didn't want to discuss it and just wanted to know which hospital would be best to go to. Finally got to the ER and they took G right back and immediately started him on a nebulizer. The attending came over to see us almost as soon as we got there and said they were fairly concerned his sat levels were not good and the stryder was concerning as it was constant and very strong. Finally the meds started to do their job ended up with steriods and breathing treatments. Just wanted to share and say mommies trust your gut, I feel like our pedi is always trying to downplay things and I couldn't believe that even though G was barely able to breathe she didn't think we should go to the ER. Presently looking for a new pediatrician....

TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck

Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man.  Born 12/2/11

TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended

Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good.  Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.

Back with RE as of January 2014...

I am glad to hear that the little one is feeling much better, that would have really scared me, too. I can't believe your pedi wasn't concerned when you mentioned trouble breathing as a symptom. I'd be finding a new one right away, too!

    What is stryder?

    DS born 12/2011
    DD born 03/2014

  • Stryder is a wheezing usually associated with Croup.   It almost sounds like a raspy whistling noise when they breathe in, the attending at the hospital stressed when he was discharging G that Stryder when a child is upset or crying is normal when they are sick, but if the stryder continues even when the child is calm it can be very dangerous and the child should be seen immediately.  Since I learned a lot at the hospital I thought I would share...
