Yup I had a skim mocha the other day at work. That was the only day I had some caffeine since I found out 1.5 weeks ago. It's best to cut the caffeine out completely but they say u shouldn't have more than 200mg a day. Which I think is a lot, but I'm not a huge coffee drinker to begin with
I've read and been told by my OB that 200 to 300mg per day is fine. I usually have a can of pop every couple of days, or when I have pizza. I'm also an avid green tea drinker so I've been trying to make sure I don't go over the caffeine "limit", but people have been drinking green tea and stuff for years and we've all survived so if I do go over the "allowable amount", then I don't really beat myself up for it. Tomorrow is another day.
I've been 100% caffeine free for 2 weeks now. Last night I came down with a terrible headache and still had it this morning.....so I gave in and had a cup of coffee. Not sure if it was the coffee or not, but the headache went away.
I drink Sprite which is caffeine free and still satisfies the soda craving (and helps with nausea). I sneak my caffeine in from Starbucks: the cool lime refresher has green tea extract, but it's only 45-55mg of caffeine in a 16oz grande. I've also stuck pretty close to decaf coffee at home, but every now and then I'll treat myself to a caramel macchiato. A little more caffeine (150mg per 16oz), but it's so worth it.
I think the trick to pregnancy is everything in moderation.
Caffeine isn't off limits at all, FYI. I don't "cheat" I'm limiting my caffeine to under 300 mg. per day as my OB recommends. I have my two cups of coffee a day. I did the same with all of my pregnancies.
My Dr., the Nurseline from my insurance co. everything I've read state it's ok to limit your caffeine intake to 2 servings a day. I luuv coffee was prepare to give it up completely until u got the good news!
Thanks ladies! Haven't been to my 8 week app yet so I have lots of questions. I have had so many women telling me to stop drinking coffee. Happy to hear other opinions here.

Just a caution about green tea: it can mess up your folic acid absorption.
For the record, I totally thought the same thing you did... no caffeine at all! I'm excited after reading all of these posts though! I haven't had a bit of caffeine in over a week and I am soo about to make myself a glass of sweet tea!!!! Yummy! I was sooo depressed when I found out caffeine was a no no. I'm defiantly a southern girl so this is great news! TY!!!!
Re: Caffeine cheater..
My Dr (and most of what I've read) say that caffeine isn't off limits but you should limit yourself to a cup a day. I think it was 300mg/day.
Dont beat yourself up! Relax, enjoy!!
You're fine OP.
