Shanado

I saw in the randoms post, Sophia's sleep is still out of wack??  What's going on with her naps, is she napping at all?  I was actually going to post to you yesterday and ask if she was straightened out yet.

M's sleep has been THE WORST, and I can't take it.   It's like she thinks she doesn't need sleep, period.  She is staying up late, getting up early, and not settling down for a nap.  We had two days this week with no nap at all - which NEVER happens - and I am about to lose my sh!t over the whole thing.

I keep thinking it's a phase, but I'm terrified that this will still be going on when the baby gets here, and that I will never ever get to sleep again.  I am feeling like a zombie already.

  • Yes, exactly what you're going through. She just doesn't seem like she needs sleep. She's been okay mood wise but yesterday it seemed to catch up with her.

She was up at 6am yesterday, didn't nap and by 4 she was absolutely miserable. Went to bed at 7pm without a fight but was up at 5:30am this morning. Whined until I put her down for a nap at 11am. She just woke 20 mins ago at 2:40.

Who knows what time she will go to sleep tonight. We had such a great thing going and now it seems like everything is up for grabs.

I still have to get up at 6am to get Dom ready for school so I'm not willing to get willy nilly with her sleeping just yet.

Once he's out of school for break, I think I'm just going to follow her lead. If she wants to nap at 3pm let's say, then fine. If she wants to stay up until 9 or 10pm, then fine. I'm just so sick of being frustrated over this whole sleep thing, I'm actually looking forward to having a whatever happens happens attitude. Which is soooo not me!

  • Ugh, I hear ya!  Last night she was up till 11, then back up at 6am this morning. I was half asleep while she ran around my room playing, then she got into bed with me and fell back asleep around 7:45.  Then I woke her up at 9:15 because I was like, this is ridiculous.  Then she didn't want to nap until close to 3:30.  I won't let her sleep past 5:30.  God knows what time she'll go to bed tonight.

I'm kind of throwing in the towel and just going with it, like you said.  Mostly because I'm just too tired to try to enforce anything, especially in the middle of the night.  But, man, I'm really missing our nice schedule we had going for so long.  I really hope these kids get their acts together and start sleeping normally again!

  • I don't know about you but we've been outside a lot and I think it works her up more than tires her out.

Also, she's starting to get more vocal and I'm a firm believer in when they are working on new skills it disrupts their sleep.

Now that you bring it up, both of these are really great points!  I just told DH last week that the fresh air is invigorating her - the opposite of what I always hear, I thought it was supposed to tire kids out!

And she has said two new words in the last two days - a real breakthrough, she has not had a new word in almost six months - so I do think her brain is on overdrive right now.  Good call!

  • This theory helps me stay sane!
  • I should add though, that I don't let her stay up past 8. If she wants to bounce around her crib until 9, well then, that's her problem. I go to bed at 9:30 or 10 and I need at least a couple hours to myself.
