How did you decide that you were ready for another? We want another, but we can't imagine the costs of a second in daycare. How did you make it work if you had to pay for child care for two or more?

Re: Having another?
Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. We don't know. We just up and decided we wanted another kid and had one! I have no clue how we are going to pay for daycare when I go back to work in August. Daycare will be $1400 a month + me and both kids on my insurance = my entire paycheck + some of DH's!! I'm working for insurance basically. I guess during open enrollment we might end up switching all of us to DH's crappier insurance so I can actually bring home some money to go to the mortgage! I've looked around here for a home daycare, but they aren't much cheaper and I don't like home daycares. I've thought about quitting teaching and just babysitting a few other kids so I can stay home with mine. I'm not sure with taxes taken out that that would be any more lucrative than the first plan though.
We use an in home daycare provider that I LOVE and we pay $300 a week for 2 kids. Yes, even though this baby is not born yet, we are paying to hold an open spot for it - that's how much we love our DCP. Now, I probably researched 50 providers and interviewed in person at least 10 before I found this one and she is the only one of all of them I would use, so it's not easy to find a great person at all!
Day care centers around here would be more like $450-600 per week for 2 kids.
If you are concerned about the money side of it, I would start saving up now as much as you can so you have a bucket to supplement the extra costs. Really take a look at your finances and see what you could cut back on and it's a very personal decision as far as what your family can afford. GL!
ETA: for some reason this didn't quote you, PGASTL
We accidentally got pregnant and then decided it would be a good idea, hahaha!
Since for now we have free childcare, it actually works out better for us to have our kids now while the grandma's are in good health and still enjoying the ride!
We couldn't afford 2 in daycare, so we opted to wait until DD was in K to TTC. DS was born a few months into her 1st grade year.
The age gap is larger than I ever wanted for our children, but we're making do. Some aspects are hard, while others aren't.
Well, we knew we always wanted at least 2 close in age. We were using pull n' pray (tmi!) & ended up pg. So it happened sooner than we anticipated & the decision as to when we'd have another was made for us.
In retrospect, we're glad things happened the way they did b/c we're not sure if we really ever would have felt 100% ready to go for #2. Before getting pg, just the thought of having 2 really overwhelmed me. We were still overwhelmed with nerves & doubt while I was pg & to be honest, most of those feelings were warranted b/c having 2 under 2 was HARD!!
But now, it's mostly awesome, lol!
The way we make daycare costs work is that I WFH with flexible hours, so we are able to just have P/T DC. DD is cared for by family & DS goes to a center.
GL!
We didn't really think about that when we started trying, just how old we wanted B to be when we had K.
It's working out okay I guess b/c B will transition early to preschool in the fall when K starts daycare. We'll still have to pay for before/after care for B, but it'll be a little less than full time day care.

This would be exactly the same for us, which is a huge (though not the only) reason that we only have one.
Well as you know I just work nights and weekends so that one of us is always home with them. We couldn't afford 1 in daycare so 2 was definitely out of the question.
