I took dd to the pedi last weekend because she kept grabbing her diaper and saying ow. He prescribed her a nystatin cream with a steroid in it. It helped the redness that she had around her vag... But all of a sudden this afternoon I went to change her diaper and she has a VERY bright red rash around her anus. She cries when she pees because it burns her bottom, and cries with the wipes.
I decided to use wet washcloths instead and after one diaper change that same ointment doesn't seem to be helping, so I decided to try destin.
does this sound like yeast? Any other tips to get rid of it and help with the pain? Should I take her back to the dr since it has spread?
Re: Very bright red diaper rash??
I would def try the cloth and air time route, but if you have carpets lol.... that can get tricky at times. Luckily we have a wooden floors and a shark steamer for the odd occasions he likes to run off and pee. I have noticed if we leave his onesie on and buttoned ..he tends not to pee in his clothes.
Hope it gets better soon
My LO had a horrible rash just last week, I can't stand Desitin as I don't think it stays on. I prefer butt paste, or the knock-off brand from the Dollar Tree! (: It seems to stay on much longer since it is thicker. Also, I give LO lots of baths and air time to dry and even between changes to help his rashes go away.
His rash was horrible, as he had been constipated for 4 days and then pooed 6 times in a row, his butt was bleeding it was so terrible
but it healed right up within a couple of days doing what I was doing!! Hope your LO's back to feeling better and heals up quickly.
DD had same thing. Sounds like a yeast infection...need something prescription strength plus as much air time as possible (no diaper). Clears up pretty quickly.
My baby daughter had yeast diaper rash recently and it looks like little liquid filled blisters. We got advised by our doctor to use an over the counter anti fungal cream twice per day. In about ten days it cleared completely.
For regular diaper rash, we got recommended by a hospital nurse to sprinkle with a bit of cornstarch. Since she was born that is all we have used and it always works. It clears the rash completely in about two days.
It doesn't sound like yeast to me, but even if it did, Nystatin is an anti-fungal cream prescribed for yeast rashes.
I do think it's odd the nystatin + steroid isn't working. When we had a really really really bad diaper rash, the doctor gave us that to help with the swelling and redness for the first couple of days. You should use topical steroids sparingly - is it possible she's having a reaction to that?
