How do I stop rocking dd to sleep for her naps? She's 13.5 mos and I know that at MIL she has put herself to sleep about four or five times but only for her afternoon nap. She should be able to do it for both by this point right? I feel like if I put her in her crib it will take forever for her to fall asleep whereas rocking it happens much quicker.
Re: Stop rocking to sleep
I've tried putting him in drowsy but he pops right up and then goes the whole day crabby and without a nap. I've tried shutting the door and letting him cry. Over an hour later he is still crying or he gets so worked out he is coughing and making himself sick, which I am totally not okay with.
The way I see it, is this is such a short time in his life that he wants to be rocked and held, I'll miss it one day so I'm going to enjoy it for now. I'll just be slightly jealous of all the moms that have good sleepers, haha!
I would do whatever works for you. I used to rock my son every night, sometimes for quite a while, but I always loved that time. Then, after a few rough evenings, I realized he no longer wanted to be rocked, and that was that.
It was a relief in a way, because now we just say it is time for bed and he goes right in and puts himself to sleep, but I really miss that time we spent together. Unless it is really something you want to stop, knowing what I know now, I would wait and let him outgrow it.
