Formula reflux moms, what kind of formula are you using? We have been using similac alimentium and between two in daycare and the 30.00 small can, our wallet is hurting!
We are in the same boat. DS has been on it since he was about a month old.DH and I were just discussing tonight how ridiculously expensive it is after spending close to 90 bucks for three cans that'll last about three weeks. He was put on it for digestive issues when the enfamil a.r. tore his stomach up. So I think at three months we may try switching to another kind of formula and see how he does but I of course will discuss it with his pedi first.
I've been down this road twice with reflux babies. The biggest tip I have about insurance is NOT for you to call. They will most likely tell you that it can be purchased over the counter and it is not covered. Get a detailed note from pedi. I even asked them to include icd9 codes. Then fax it to a medical supply place. They will then contact the insurance on your behalf and deliver to your door. Good luck! It is super expensive and will hopefully be coveted as it is medically necessary.
Mine is still in RnP but she actually doesn't mind sleeping flat, unlike DS who hated it at her age. With him I elevated the mattress and it worked out ok.
We are on nuetramagin (sp?) and we get some insurance coverage for it as my bigger guy has ped specified severe reflux. We did what pp said is had the ped right the script for it and send it for us to a medical supply place. Our ped was more than happy to do this for us.
The medical supply place called me to verify the insurance information supplied by our pediatrician and then contacted our insurance. I took a couple of days for it all to be worked out but now I get it delivered. The break ins't much I will say but it at least lowers the price to be comparable with other enfamil formulas.
Before we were switched, we had really good luck on Gerber Good Start Smooth and it is only $23 per 23oz can so not nearly as expensive. The issue we ran into with this formula is we were still having several flare ups here and there.
