Cow milk on trips

Which non-refrig milk do you bring on your trips?

I normally pour some milk into her bottle and carry a pack of ready-to-feed formula. It's time to say good bye to her formula, but no whole milk that can travel for many hrs, especially on the plane. :(

  • Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I don't bother to bring milk, especially when flying. While technically you can bring it through security for a toddler, the extra screening is just not worth the hassle to me. It can be purchased at most airports (McDonalds sells little cartons) and is available on the plane. Or if DD only gets one sippy of milk instead of her usual two during the day I'm not overly concerned.

  • I'm sure I will eventually not carry one, but "what if" makes me nervous. And no milk will trigger her scream/cry out loud in public settings.

me  = new to raising a toddler. I often carry everything, including those she may need...  Thankfully, her diaper bag size got smaller since her infant stage.

  • Most 8oz non refrig. milk cartons are available in 1%, vanilla, choc & straw. why not just plain whole milk?
  • I don't bring it - I buy it at the airport if we need it.

  • Planes offer milk and I'm sure any cafe in the terminal can sell you milk or carry milk boxes.  If that's still not enough there are plenty of boxed milk like Horizon that you can keep unrefrigerated.  Keep in mind that I'm not sure if milk counts as a baby item like formula and pureed food so it might be subject to the 3 oz rule.

The rule doesn't apply to purees for a small child.  You can bring an insane amount of stuff for a small child.

OP, if she's not fully weaned off of formula, why don't you just bring that?  If you're flying in the US, you can bring bottles of water to mix it with.  Just be forewarned that they may swab your stuff for explosive residue.  You can also buy shelf stable milk.  Horizon is just one of the brands that makes it.  You can also buy "milk drink" in shelf stable cartons.  It's next to the formula.  I've carried that before when we've traveled.  Though, Horizon is cheaper.  I always had gift cheques from Enfamil plus a coupon, so the milk drink was about a dollar for the whole shooting match, rather than $6 for a pack of 4.

Plus, they have milk on the plane.  I haven't been on a plane that doesn't offer it.  Even the shiiitier airlines service-wise have always had milk and always been generous with it.

  • Try nestle nido instant dry whole milk.
  • Here is what I do.

LO has a 'thermos' type of sippy cup, i think it is by platex. it keeps the milk cool enough for several hours. In the eddie bauer outlet, i bought a thermos that is rated for 12+ hours hot and 8+ cold. I put boiling water in it and let it sit overnight and it was still at at temp in the morning. it is a little heavier than I would have liked but for 10 bucks and holds 30oz it is worth it.  I use it whenever we are going out of the house for more than 4 hours. I've used it on 16+ hour road strips and overnights and all day in the hot sun at the zoo and the milk is always still cold.

Also, starbucks sells 'kid' drinks and i know locally near me their kids whole milk is $1.45 plus tax and is sever in their tall size cup.

  • for my recent plane trip, i bought it at the airport and they gave it to me on the plane- in fact, they rinsed the bottle and filled it up since it was too bumpy for me to walk around. I did ask before boarding to ensure they had it.

it wasn't super easy to find at the airport for some weird reason so I would bring a couple of the horizon ones- ask the stewards to put in fridge for you when you get on so its cold if that's how you like it. they were amazing on being accomodating- even found a blanket for me even though they don't give them out anymore.

  • I've not flown with my kids, so I can't help with that, but if we are driving for several hours, or out for a day at the zoo or something, I fill a sippy and a tupperware drink container with milk and stick them in a cooler with an ice pack or two.

  • Horizon organics sells non refrigerated kind, but I don't think TSA will allow a non clear liquid bottle. They'll tell you to open it which sort of defeats the purpose. Maybe buy a cold one at a snack shop by our gate if they'll be open.
