I am looking for a new seating option for DS#1. He's getting too big for the space saver high chair we use and I want something that lets him sit at the table comfortably and will grow with him.
I'm looking at the Stokke Tripp Trapp and the Keekaroo. Does anyone have either of these? What do you think - great chairs or not so much? Any other recommendations?
It is important to me that the chair I get is useful over a long period of time, so I love the high weight limits on both of these chairs.
Re: Anyone have a Tripp Trapp or similar chair?
I don't have either of those chairs, and not that it's super EFF, but the Ikea Antilop chair meets your requirements.
It can pull right up to the table (or use the tray separately), fits a bigger kid (my friend has a hefty 2.5 year old who uses his for every meal), plus it's super reasonably priced (chair alone is $20 in the US, and the tray is $5). And if you like to eat outside it's light enough to easily carry in/out and you can hose it off at the end of the meal (I love this!).
I just got this chair too, to replace my stupid gigantic non-washable peg perego chair (was a hammidown). There's room to grow for him and it does pull right up to the table. Problem for me is that it's almost TOO light - he can scoot the chair forward if he wants, and the safety straps are kind of a joke, but boy for $25 it's PERFECT. I too love that I could hose it off if necessary.
I used a binder clip UNDER the seat to help tighten the straps - I'm not saying she absolutely couldn't get out but she hasn't since I did that. She also hasn't figured out maybe that she can scoot the chair...although she does push it around when she's walking.
The only thing I dislike about it is that you have to tip the tray to remove it...so if it is covered in debris you have to be careful not to dump it.

Yeah, the Ikea chair can be found everywhere here in restaurants, so we've used it a lot. I feel like it isn't sturdy enough for DS. And he'll only fit in it for so long. It definitely does the job, but for me it makes more sense to make the investment in the wooden chair now rather than getting something throw-away.
But I do love me some Ikea. The "scratch & dent" department is my friend.
We used the Ikea chair w/ B and now we use a children's chair that you can get at almost any unfinished wood place in the US. eta: B has been sitting in this chair w/out any issue since before he turned 2.
lol I can't get my tray off! but everything gets intentionally dumped on the floor here because the dog cleans it all up, so the mess factor isn't an issue in our house. how the hell do you get the tray to pop off?
