Question for anyone with PUPPPs

Hi everyone,

I posted this on my BMB but thought maybe someone here might relate...

I was officially diagnosed with a severe case of PUPPPs last week. My dr told me to take 50mg of Benadryl before bed and to use sarna lotion or hydrocortisone cream.  The thing is she didn't really specify how much if either or if I'm supposed to be using both, etc. So far the sarna is doing wonders!  The Benadryl makes me feel terrible and the hydrocortisone didnt do much, so I've just been sticking to the sarna a few times a day. Well I noticed on the bottle it says not to exceed 3 or 4 times daily and now im concerned ive been using it too liberally. Can anyone share how much and how often they applied the sarna??

Thanks in advance!

I've had PUPP since I was 8 weeks and I havent heard of sarna before (but perhaps I'll ask if it's working for you?) My MFM did say that using things such as the benadryl cream can actually have adverse reactions in some women, so maybe you're just on the side where creams like that and hydrocortisone just dont work. Have you looked up the sarna online?

I was given some cream way back when that was a Class C steroid cream that was actually for spot treatment, but I had so many dang spots I was essentially using it like body lotion. I only used it once because I just wasnt comfortable with how much I needed vs the potential risks.

  • I don't have an answer to your specific question, but I did come across this great website on PUPPPs when I was doing my own research on finding relief:

I highly recommend looking at some of the suggestions here, too.

  • I got diagnosed with PUPP too, it's really awful. I got a steroid cream, and it works a bit but I am still horribly itchy. I don't know about the cream your talking about but this one I can apply as I need it, which is all the time but I am just trying to tough it out until 38 weeks cause my doctor said she will induce me then cause they are inflamed and really raw. It's gross.

Lurking from 2nd tri (and with new log-in because I forgot the old one)...

I had a terrible case of PUPPPs with my 1st pregnancy last year.  I fear getting it again so I feel for you!  Sarna was one of the few lotions that gave some relief, but not enough.  I used it as much as you.  I also suggest Grandpa's Pine Tar soap.  You will smell like a campfire but give it a few days and it may help take the edge off.   My doctor also said Zyrtec may help, but I never tried it.  Good luck!!
