I really want a coke

I'm not a big caffeine drinker. I haven't had any (besides chocolate) since finding out I was pregnant. I have had no pop (which wasn't a big deal) and only decaf coffee. However, DH bought some of the real coke in glass bottles and I can't get it out of my head. I know I have already eaten more caffeine in chocolate chip cookies lately, but mentally I still can't bring myself to drink it. Ugh.

  • I feel you! I feel the same way. I really want a starbucks frap esp now they are buy one get one half off. Even if I could bring myself to having one.....(or two) I can't because I have was diagnosed with GD.

The other day I wanted a soda too. I can have diet soda, but choose to not drink that either.

    it's almost over....

  • lol I feel left out a little though because every where I read says some caffeine is fine, however Dr keeps saying absolutely not, so I'm listening. I know it's not much longer to go! Whew

  • I'll be the enabler: there's only a third of the amount of caffeine in a Coke as there is in a cup of regular coffee. I'd say go for it. One won't hurt you or the baby, and you'll be better off for not obsessing about it. :D
  • imagehuckleberry08:
Why don't you pour half of the bottle into a glass for DH and drink the other half yourself?

    Good idea!

Is there a reason your Dr is telling you absolutely no caffeine at all? High risk? None at all seems very draconian.

I really have no idea. Every time I go I mean to ask but then I forget. This time I have a reminder set up to ask why.

  • I must be the worst mom ever because I've been drinking diet coke occasionally and a regular coffee a few times a week.

If you want it just do it!
  • aww, you can have some soon.

I on the other hand am having my 3rd or 4th cup of 1/2 caf coffee right now.  I can't imagine no caffeine at all.

  • Umm..... I drink a latte daily. My ob says it's fine. My son, who is 2, is perfectly healthy and normal too. I drank caffeine when I was pregnant with him as well.

  • My cousin is addicted to Mt Dew. She would drink multiple Mt Dews a day and her baby was fine. She was told to cut it down while nursing because it was upsetting his tummy though. I drink caffeine every single day, the mg limit is more than 2 20oz Mt Dews. Just keep it in check.

There is still caffeine in decaf coffee; very much less, but still there. If you're drinking decaf 5-7 days per week then it's like having 1-2 cups of regular coffee. So I'd say with this logic, go ahead and have a coke and cut out your decaf coffee for a few days.

I think if people are ok with a beer while pregnant a coke is nothing! Drink it

For real? I drink caffeine every day. Drink the soda.
This. I also drank it daily while pregnant with my other two kids. They're both very healthy.

    Drink the coke.

    Yes This.

I have a Dr. Pepper from time to time, oh & half-caff coffee on the mornings I have clinical for school. I guess it's a personal choice based on what you're comfortable with. No pressure.

  • You'll be ok if you drink one. I cut out caffeine for the majority of my pregnancy. The other day the vending machine guy came in and was carrying Mountain Dew and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I drank a whole 20oz of Mountain Dew AND ate a mega chocolate chip chocolate muffin and LO is just fine. It didn't even bother my heart palpitations. It's not like you'd drink a whole case of coke.

Caffeine free coke tastes just the same.Believe me, I've been caffeine free for six years now, and have done blind taste tests on multiple friends who didn't believe me. Lol.
  • Just drink it, one will not harm you or the baby

  • So have a 1/2 one already.  It wont harm you or the baby.  I only drank a very little bit during pregnancy #1 - only when I had really bad headaches and the Tylenol was not doing the trick.  For this LO I've definitely had more.  The demands of a toddler and my work cause a lot less sleep for me than during my first pregnancy so I've definitely had more caffeine this go-around.

  • Umm...I drink 2 cans of coke everyday Embarrassed I did the same when I was pregnant with DS.

He seems to be ok, except for the tail and horns. But I think that builds character.

    Drink the coke.
    Please.

Truly, just drink it. Unless you are some kind of extra high risk person, there is no reason you can't have a coke. 1 can has about 30 mg of caffeine and most sources say up to 200 is fine. I don't know how much is in a bottle, but they seem even smaller than a can.

Also, that was kinda rude of your DH to bring them into the house if you are really that against drinking one.

Yes Ain't nothing wrong with that.

  • Have the coke, woman! I still have a double espresso every morning, did with DD, too, and as far as I know, my kid still only has 1 head. Might explain DD's energy levels, though (I KID, I KID!)

Except that he lives there too and is too old to need permission to consume whatever he wants.
