Excessive DC accidents?

I have a 15 month old boy. He has been getting hurt at daycare a lot, to the point i'm thinking about switching.

Last Monday he fell on a toy and broke his front tooth in half. Next day he tripped on a highchair and hot a huge bruise on his face. Then Wednesday another baby bit him FIVE TIMES. 3 of the bites broke the skin. I kept him home Thursday so no accidents. He falls and stuff at home but he's never had anything serious happen at home. Should also add he fell at school a couple months ago and cut his eyebrow which required 5 stitches.
We've loved his school though. It's part of a private school that goes all the way thru high school. We planned to send him straight through. If we pull him out now he probably won't get back in because there is a 3 year wait list for preschool.

This was one of the reasons we switched recently. DS got some serious knots on his head and kept falling off a piece of playground equipment that he had no business being allowed on in the first place. This was not our only issue, though. We had a growing list. So if you are otherwise happy with the place I would first ask for a meeting with the teachers and director to talk about what is happening and what can be done to prevent future accidents.

  • I'd say the accidents are really just because of his age. My son is 19 months and has almost needed stitches in his lip and eyebrow from falling at daycare. It happens.

But 5 bites in one day?! I actually work in a daycare and will be the first to stand up for a fellow teacher...it is nearly impossible to stop all biting, but 5 times in one day to the same child is unacceptable. I'd definitely talk to them about that...

  • No video, unfortunately. Also, the bites were all at once so 5 in a row. I am bothered that they weren't watching 2 babies while this happened. And, the broken tooth just kills me. He can easily get into trouble if he's not being watched. They need to be right there to intervene before he gets in over his head. Now I'm just sick to my stomach worrying when I drop him off. But, I don't know that another place would be any better.
  • DD also gets hurt a lot at DC.  Nothing major, but bumps, bruises, bites, etc.  It's par for the course between 1-3 years, I think.  I would give it a bit more time, but talk to them about your concerns.  Don't jump ship until you are sure, b/c it sounds like you won't get back in.
