Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Angel Monitor

Have you heard of it? Have you used one? Maybe you are currently using one?

We have an Angel Monitor - and it was a God sent because it really gives you a peace of mind but our son is almost 8 months now and he rolls all around the crib and some nights he gets in the corners of his crib and if he sleeps really soundly - the dang thing goes off - wakes us up and then we have trouble getting back to sleep and everything has always been fine.

If you had an Angel Monitor - when did you stop using it?

When does SIDS become less of a fear?

Re: Angel Monitor

  • We have this monitor and DS just turned 8 months and we stopped using it about a month or month and a half ago. DS does the same we lay him down in the middle of the crib and he always winds up in that darn corner! The thing goes off so then we took the sensor pad out from under the mattress and just left the monitor on for noise. We just stopped using the whole thing about a month ago. But our rooms are also right across from eachother and I keep both doors open

Same here, but my LO is 7 months old. Stopped a few weeks ago. She loves cuddling in the top left corner!

  • We stopped using the Angelcare very recently, for the same reasons. BUT we also havew the Snuza clipped on her which has much less false alarms, but still a few. I think we are going to stop using it as well here soon.

  • We're probably done as of tonight because now that he can roll all around we're getting false alarms when he smooshes himself on one end or side.
  • We actually bought two of them but returned them without ever using them for those reasons, wiggling into the corners and rolling all around. I guess it's a bit different, since I had premature twins who didn't sleep in their cribs int heir room until about 4 months old. By then, they were already trying to go everywhere but the middle of the crib.

If they can roll over, the risk of SIDS is dramatically reduced. I think the danger is if a baby gets onto his tummy and can't lift his head or roll over to get air.

  • We're in the minority here.  We still use one for each of our children--even the two and a half year old.  It gives me such piece of mind.   I heard a story about a toddler choking on his own vomit and it freaked me out enough and we just kept on using it with him.  Plus, he still sleeps in a crib and I figure this will be my 20 second warning that he learned to crawl out.  We've had very few false alarms and usually they're from the sensor pad getting pushed to one side during a change of sheets or something.  There's been maybe two times that he's curled into a little corner of the bed.
