Infertility

Lupron users

For IVF #2 I am switching to the long lupron protocol from antagonist last time.  I didn't realize how long before stimming the lupron starts.  I will have to bring the lupron with me on our anniv trip to FL.  We are staying part of the time with my in laws.  This is making me nervous!!!  Traveling with it and staying with my in laws (who do not know about our IVF).  Any suggestions welcome for traveling & storage??  TIA!

Re: Lupron users

  • I haven't traveled with any meds/syringes but I see on here that no one really has an issue getting through TSA with it.

Once you pierce the bottle of Lupron, it has to be kept in the fridge, so do you have any arrangements for that?

  • Hi Shell...I am on the LL protocol right now. The Lupron comes in a little box, very small, maybe 3"Highx5"Widex6"Length. It comes in a nice little kit with all the bandaids, alcohol swabs, and needles you'll need right in one little box! All you'll need to do is bring along your small sharps container, and you'll only have two things you can tuck deep into your suitcase! I just traveled with these two items just last weekend...so it is fresh in my mind. I didn't take an airplane, but we were trying to keep it private. :) If you have a small sharps container, it won't take up much room at all. If you don't have a small sharps container, ask your RE. :)

I'll be getting the lupron next week.  My RE nurse said it would need to be refrigerated once opened.  You think it's possible to put in a small cooler with ice packs?

  • I have been taking it for almost 2 weeks and just freaked out because I haven't kept it refrigerated. I just read through the medication manual and called the pharmacist, and both say to store at 68 to 77 degrees.

That should work. The vial itself is really small so you wouldn't need a big cooler.

Ha ha, this is what I just did! I looked though, and I am taking Leuprolide Acetate, which requires storage 68-77 degrees. Perhaps the actual brand Lupron is different, and requires refrigeration? I would bring a small cooler with ice packs, and I would secretly gather ice or ice packs (trade them out) from the in-law's freezer. :)

I believe you are correct it does not need to be refrigerated after opening.

Ummm....I was not told this. I have just been keeping mine on my dresser. Did I just scew this whole thing up?

OP, lots of girls on this board talk about traveling with meds and I've never heard anyone say they've had a problem. If you are super concerned though, get a doctors note.
