I try to avoid all meds during my pregnancies. I'd have to be having debilitating morning sickness that was causign me to miss a ton of work to consider it.
I have never been pregnant so I have no idea how morning sickness might affect me, but I rarely take medication for anything so I hope that I would not have such severe morning sickness that I would find medication necessary. I like to believe I would be able to use homeopathic remedies to feel better, and wouldn't use medication unless I was having difficulty functioning.
My friend was very sick her entire pregnancy. Her OB prescribed something(I can't remember the name) for her nausea. If I get as sick as she did & the medication is safe, I'd probably take it too. I could care less about missing work, I would be more concerned with being too sick to get proper nutrition to the baby. I'd probably try other, non-med, options first though.

Yep. The article says that "The medication is intended for women whose nausea isn't adequately managed through recommended changes in diet and lifestyle," I think it's a least good to have that as a last resort. My fear is that it's one of those situations where the FDA thinks it's safe, until they find out that it isn't.
I took Zofran when I was pregnant I wasnt working at the time but the morning sickness was really bad I couldn't keep anything down. My OB said it was safe and it did help some.

Zofran is a miracle drug. I get terrible gastroenteritis every other year or so, and its the only thing that keeps me from feeling like complete shiit
I think that's what my friend was on too. According to her it was a life-saver!

It really is I was sick my whole pregnancy and tried everything. Bland diet, smaller meals, they even put me on an all liquid diet (my gallbladder went bad) I couldn't even keep broth down it was miserable.
I am not against medications, I just like to avoid them. I have no idea how affected I will be by morning sickness so I cannot say whether I would try something or not. First thought, No.
Why would you not take meds for morning sickness? It can lead to dehydration and poor nutrition. It has nothing to do with how many days you miss from work.
This.
I never understand why people seem to think that every med is going to harm their baby. Some meds are perfectly safe for pregnancy.
Example: My co-irker came in on a Monday morning complaining about how bad her morning sickness was and that she was throwing up all weekend. I asked if she had called her doc, that there were meds she could take to help with the morning sickness. She acted shocked that I would even suggest that she take medicine. She even told me that she would never take meds while she was pregnant unless she was deathly ill. Umm don't you think dehydration is bad for your baby?
Then again, this is the same woman that refuses to get a flu shot when she is pregnant, because "you never know it could hurt the baby."

I don't understand thinking that way. Correct me if I'm wrong but, doesn't severe dehydration increase your MC chances? Does she think that getting crazy sick from the flu is less of a hazard to the baby? I just don't get it. Your baby will not benefit from you being sick. There are perfectly safe meds for pregnant women.

I lived on Zofran for most of my third pregnancy and I took pain medications during all of my pregnancies. It is a personal choice, but I was told by my OB, Pain Management Doctor, Perinatologist and the Pediatrician that keeping me comfortable during my pregnancies was an important part of having a healthy pregnancy. I respect those that chose not to take medications while pregnant but don't get why they would rather be sick & miserable when there are medications that are proven effective and safe to take while pregnant. It can make for a loooong 9 months!
When I was pregnant, I would do anything to ward off morning sickness. I tried ginger ale, ginger gum, acupressure bands, b6, unisom, slept 12 hours a night....when you're in the situation you just have to make the best choice for you.
I took Zofran from week 11 until the day I gave birth. I had to be admitted to the hospital to be rehydrated, and that's when my doctor prescribed the Zofran. Even with the meds it was hard to keep food down, and I worried about the fact that I wasn't able to eat as healthily as I should.
If a medication is approved safe for pregnancy, I can't understand why you wouldn't take it if it meant that you could eat/drink enough to provide what your baby needs.

I was pretty sick and it was miserable! I tried all of the natural remedies I could find, but ultimately had to take b6 and unisom every day of my pregnancy to feel human. DS is perfectly healthy and I feel like I had a much happier, healthier pregnancy because of it.
I've never had morning sickness but am in the camp of trying to avoid meds during pregnancy. If the MS was bad enough that it was effecting mine or my babies health and nothing else was helping I would definitely look into it.
This. I only take pain meds to get over a hangover but if I couldn't function, I would look into it. Healthy baby is my 1 goal but I can't stop living life for 9 months either.
We actually just had a meeting on the re-release of this medication earlier in the week (I work in a pharmacy).
Zofran is a drug to help with chemo-induced nausea and vomiting and is meant to be used as a last resort drug for severe morning sickness/hyperemesis, even after Bendectin/Diclegtis.
This drug that is being re-released in the US is a much safer drug. It was recalled after the thalidomide scare, because people thought it was the nausea medication causing birth defects, and it was later found out to be the thalidomide. The drug they are re-introducing to the market has still been available in other countries and has been used safely and effectively. This isn't a case of "FDA thinks it's safe then will re-call later because it isn't safe."
That is really interesting! I was diagnosed with hyperemesis during my first pregnancy, and Zofran was the only thing that helped (and I still didn't feel great). Do you know if it is as effective as Zofran for HG?
