TTC After a Loss

The Smallest Gift (long)

I recieved a package from the organization The Smallest Gift yesterday. My name was passed on to them from a fellow Bumpie from the Loss board. She and I have very similar loss stories as far as our daughters are concerned.

I opened it up and read the note and started to cry. Inside was a small knot blanket with my daughters name and birthdate. It also had a sweet little saying on it as well. There was also a heart shaped bag filled with rice. It is the exact weight as Addison was when I delivered her: 1lb 2 oz.

I was so touched by the gesture of the fellow bumpie that I've gotten to know and the organization. The bag means SO much to me. I was barely conscious when I delivered my daughter. I know I held her after delivery, I have pictures to prove to myself I did. But my memory fails me. I'll likely never vividly remember holding her. Any memories I have from the hospital are fuzzy and brief. I held that heart close to my last night and wept with my husband. It touched my heart to know the weight of my daughter and to have some tiny connection to remembering her better.

I'm so thankful for all the organizations, charities and groups who help loss moms. I've heard so many wonderful things about Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. Another local one I am personally thankful for is Minutes of Gold. (they supply clothing to stillborn babes who would otherwise have nothing to fit them.) My daughter wore her gown and a tiny pink afghan for a few days while in the hospital. She was able to be held and shown dignity through the clothes they provided.

Sorry this got so long. I just wanted to express my gratitude and aknowledge all the amazing programs in place for the hardest of circumstances.

Here is Addie's blanket:

This is what was so special to me last night. I stood with the heart in my hand and later laid on the couch with it on my chest. It was a good feeling having that actual physical weight on my chest and in my hands. It made me picture laying with her on my chest as she slept and I watched tv.

Thank you all for the tears you shed for myself and Addison. I know not everyone knows my whole story but your hugs are so appreciated!! I love the support and kindness that comes with the ladies on this board! I love you all.
