1st Trimester

Yeast Infection

I'm 8 weeks 3 days and I have a yeast infection due to the last 2 weeks of antibiotics I've been on. My doc says all I can do is eat yogurt, rest, drink lots and of water. At 13 weeks I can use an OTC med. Is there anything anyone has tried that works?

Re: Yeast Infection

  • Monistat is a good OTC med. Til then, a diet low in sugars and lots of cranberry juice can help you kick it on your own.
  • My pap from my first appt came back that I have a YI. It's weird bc I don't have any symptoms? But they told me to get monistat 7 but only use it for 5 days.

  • I just got a prescription for difflucan yesterday from my RE.  I love that little pill!

  • You can also try natural treatments, which in my experience work faster and more reliably than OTC medications.  Eating yogurt (preferably un/minimally-sweetened; nancy's is a good brand) and/or taking probiotics can help, especially with preventing recurrence.  A tried-and-true natural method is to do the following.  (You can do both, or either one, but if you do both, use ACV first, then yogurt.)
Dilute apple cider vinegar with water.
In the shower, apply using a clean washcloth, by splashing or using a peri-type bottle.
    Rinse.
Apply plain, unsweetened yogurt to the affected area.  Allow to sit for a minute, then rinse thoroughly.
Dry thoroughly (i.e., pat dry w/TP).
One treatment has always been enough for me, but if you didn't catch the YI early, you could do it twice w/ 12-24 hrs in between.

There are other natural methods, but i've never had to try them.  Also, be sure to dry the area thoroughly after every shower and every trip to the bathroom, avoid tight clothing and synthetic underwear and rinse the area only (no soap) in the shower.
