This past weekend was my DH's first weekend off in 2 months. It also happened to be the weekend that we turned over to 13 weeks. We went home to tell our families that we're expecting.
We told his family Friday evening. The last time we'd been there, I had taken a family picture, but I didn't have my tripod, so I wasn't in the picture. For this trip, we asked for another family picture and used the excuse that I didn't get in on the last one. For the first picture, I told everyone to say "cheese", and my mother-in-law made a really goofy face while saying "cheese." She immediately asked for another picture, much to my pleasure because I was looking for an excuse to take another picture. When I went back to my camera, I turned it to video and then asked my husband what we should say for the next picture. He waited for the teasing to stop (everyone was teasing my MIL about her funny face and making it take longer) and then said "how bout 'we're pregnant'". This is my in-laws' first grandchild, and we were expecting a much more dramatic response. However, it was still a good response. Several minutes later, my Father-in-law looked at my husband and said "are you kidding?"... The way he said it and the amount of time that had lapsed between his question and our telling made his statement rather entertaining... and one he likely won't live down for quite some time.
Then, on Sunday after church, we told my family. When we first arranged the trip, I told my sister that we'd be in the area and she agreed to meet us at my parents' house. When my grandparents found out that us girls would be there, they asked to join in on the party. So, after church, we all sat down in the living room at my parents house. I then went to get my mom's early mother's day gift, which was a picture announcing our pregnancy. She opened it and read it aloud and then announced "You're pregnant!", to which I nodded yes. Then, my grandpa came in from outside. I hadn't even realized he was gone, as he had managed to sneak away when I wasn't looking. I showed him the picture, and he didn't get it. We ended up having to tell him explicitly.
The surprise came at supper time, when my niece (my sister's oldest) announced that "mommy has a baby in her tummy". This took me by surprise, but was also really exciting because it means that my sister and I will get to be pregnant at the same time this time around, and she is only 3 weeks behind me.

Re: Told the family - and got a surprise!
Awwww!!! That sounds like a wonderful weekend! And how awesome that you will get to share this experience with your sister! My little sister and I were pg at the same time when I had my DS and she had her DD2. It was so great to have her to bounce things off of. I was actually 5wks behind her, so I kind of knew what was coming. Our kids are 7wks apart (her's came a week early and mine a week late) and they are BEST FRIENDS! Ppl always ask us if they are twins! haha
Congrats!!!

Awww...what a great weekend, and a great surprise! You and your sister are going to have so much fun together the next few months! And I'm sure your kiddos will be super close! How fun!!
I love both stories, the IL one is too funny.
My sister and I are pregnant together too, she's due mid-August. My DD is 1 year and 16 days older than her older DD so were are really thrilled to have all the cousins be within 3 years of each other. I think you and your sisters kiddo will be wonderful friends!!
