I was nameberrying my name: Cara. It dates back to the 1800's. Kara didn't get in the top 1000 until 1956 and in 1963 became more popular than Cara. Kara has been more popular than Cara since then. Why do you think that is?

Re: Cara vs. Kara
Agree with PPs that sometimes I think a first letter becomes "trendy" for names. Also, I think some people may pronounce them *slightly* differently. I think I've met a Cara who pronounced it like CAR-A and a Kara who was CARE-A.
Also, there may be some "ethnic"/nationality to the letters. I think "K" is big in germany/poland/eastern europe? At least, I knew a couple Karols/Karolines (vs. Carol/Caroline) who were from that area.
