How do you plant your potatoes? I cut them up to callus over, but I'm curious how you plant them. I've read and heard different techniques.

I am nervous to kill everything I planted, because I am the opposite of a green thumb.
Okay, here's the "County Girl" to tell you all you have to do is cut the potato up into quarters and plant it. Make sure it has plenty of good soil, we usually add fertilizer (and by we I mean my parents b/c we live in town and there's no good soil to be had here) It will sprout from the eyes and all that on it's own. From a land of potato farmers I can tell you ya don't have to wait until it sprouts to plant it.
ETA: I spent many months on a potato harvester come fall time, and have family members who are potato farmers
thank you for your insight!
The sprouts have already formed inside from having to wait for the weather to clear. We have great soil here, so I don't think I will use any fertilizer. Also, do you make the hills over top the potatoes?
