How much was your dose of FSH increased compared with the IUI cycle?

My IUI started at 75 of gonal F, eventually increasing to 112.5. I got 4 mature. My IVF is scheduled to start at 187.5.

I had a second opinion appt last week and the 2nd RE expressed concern about starting ivf at such a low dose esp, since I would have been on bcp for 2 months prior plus lupron. She thought I should be on a much higher dose "to shock the ovaries to wake up". I asked my RE about it and she thought for a second then said "nope, that dose is fine for you". DH is now concerned that the second opinion RE is right.

I know everyone's protocol is different but would be interested to know what your starting dose is.

I was on Follistim at 75 for 5 days when I did IUI. I responded well on my first time with the stims so they said I could transfer to IVF. (I didn't) So I was a little shocked when I was put on 450 Gonal F for my first IVF. My RE said that they wanted to go with the most aggressive approach because of my age. Well sure enough they had to knock my dosage down to only 150 and I stimmed for only 8 days--They are afraid of OHSS.

So if you responded well when you did IUI, I wouldn't sweat it too much. They can always increase your dosage if you aren't doing well. Think of all the money you will save on medications!

It's really hard to say which is the 'right' answer at this point. There are lots of different opinions and approaches on how to do IVF - and everyone's own body reacts differently. So its hard to know how your body will respond at this point.

I know. I'm really just curious on what other people's RE put them on, obviously the response could be different iui v ivf.

The range for starting is about 150IU on the low end and 600IU for people on max doses. I've started at from 200IU to 400IU depending on my protocol.

Don't forget that many RE's up a dosage during stims if you're not responding in the way they expected.

I think it seems like a good starting point and could easily be upped if needed.

We haven't done an IVF cycle yet, but my RE tends to use the lower doses with most of her patients. Her partner in the clinic on the other hand, tends to use higher doses right off the bat. The other doctor gets more eggs, but mine tends to have a higher percentage of mature eggs. Their pregnancy rates are the same though.

So, no personal experience yet, but just wanted to throw out what my doctors thinking on it was!

That does seem a little low. I was on 125iu of follistim for my IUI cycle and 300 for ivf cycle.

With IUI i was on 75 iu follistim for one cycle and then 150 for another cycle and got one-two mature follicles (although my E2 never got higher than 130-150, so who knows if they were actually mature eggs in them). with my first IVF i did 300 follistim daily, stimmed for 10 days and got 3 mature eggs. With this IVF I am starting again with 300 daily (150 morning 150 afternoon).
