1st Trimester

Morning Sickness Blues

So basically, I feel have more than the typical morning sickness.  Mine usually lasts from waking me up in the morning around 8 and prevents me from sleeping till the late hours, and on occasion so kindly wakes me in my sleep. But it's not the actually puking that gets me, it's an EXTREME nauseous feeling, preventing me from really eating or drinking anything, including water. Recently, of last night, I have found that fresh strawberries and chamomile tea works for about a half hour to relieve me of the nauseousness.  HELP ME, PLEAASEEE!!!  I have no idea how to control it or how to actually be productive. everything I try to do seems to make it worse.

Re: Morning Sickness Blues

  • I am on meds for my m/s. I have severe nausea (gagging all the time) along with throwing up. My doc gave my Zofran, but that started to not work (would throw up an hour after taking it). Right now she has me on three different things to help...I take a half a tab of B-6 3x a day, I take Zofran 2x a day, and I take Phenergan before bed (it makes you very sleep so that is why I take it at night). I am on day two and so far things are better. The vomiting has stopped and I find my nausea (while still there) isn't as bad. I had HG with my last pregnancy and I really am trying to stay on top of this so that I don't end up in the ER. Last time I only had myself to take care of so it was easier, but now I have a 2yr old so I cannot afford to be lying down all day.
If nothing else seems to work I would ask your doc about Zofran, if the nighttime nausea is real bad the Phenergan works real well and helps you sleep.

  • Zofran is great, but I try to use it only when absolutely necessary, like I have a work presentation or something. Sea bands have also worked somewhat for me and my OB recommends them. Also continuous small meals, I find I'm most nauseous if I let myself get hungry. Lemon water, crabapple juice and Gatorade are my friends as well bc regular water makes me gag. Hope you feel better soon!!!

  • I'm on Zofran. I can totally relate. I have been miserable for the past two weeks, like really bad. I've been taking Zofran for a week and it's really helped. Although with Zofran comes constipation which is a completely other story. Haha. I also found that watermelon helps me. Stay strong, hopefully after our first trimester we'll feel better! :
  • This is something I am going to be talking to my Dr about on Monday when I go in. I have been sick almost everyday and it is getting to the point where I cannot seem to want to eat anything, yet I am starving. I find that saltines work well and make sure to try and drink water if you can so you stay hydrated.

My sister told me about the B-6 but I am waiting to see my Dr to see what she suggests. I am just looking ahead to the 2nd trimester, hoping that all of this subsides. My morning sickness wasn't anywhere close to this with my DS.

  • Thanks everyone! I've been trying the zofran, hasn't been doing too well for me, but it seems to help a little here and there.  But I've found that around midnight, it goes away for a little bit, and that's when I literally pile drive food into me so I get something in at least.
And thanks for the lemon water idea, that seems to be working to allow me to get fluids in!

Hopefully first trimester is all this will last! Good luck to you ladies as well!!

  • I tried EVERYTHING with my last one and was still miserable.  Some day mint tea helped, some days mandarain oranges helped, cinnamon gum, chewing or sucking on ice ... I basically tried sleeping whenever I could just to get through it.  There were times when anything with sugar in it left a horrible aftertaste and made things worse.  And what worked at first, stopped working later on, so don't be afraid to change it up.  hang in there!
