STM advice- Shower travel question

STM advice- Shower Travel Question

My sister will be throwing me a shower in NY that my side of the family will be attending as well as all of our friends. It is going to be a no frills co-ed shower. I have no idea when but assume end of July or in August.

MIL just told me she would like to throw me a shower in MI since all of DHs family can;t travel to NY. I accepted. This is our 1st baby and DH is her oldest child and pretty much the last one to have a kid. All the other grandkids in the family are a lot older and she is excited for a baby in the family again.

I would need to drive out to MI for the shower which is a 10hr ride.  She said to let her know when is best for me since I would have to travel out. I obviously want to look pregnant for the event (14w2d now and tiny tiny bump is happening) but don't want to be uncomfortable with the long drive.

What's your suggestion on when this should happen? End of June? Beginning of July?

TIA

    It's hard to predict. You don't know now how you'll feel later, or if you'll have complications. I was lucky, I felt great up until I gave birth. I never felt "hugely uncomfortable."nbsp;Do you absolutely need to nail down a date now? Showers can be planned in as little as 6 weeks. nbsp;

    I guess that's true I can wait a little to see how things progress. I just feel like things are flying by so fast already lol I'm a planner to a fault. As far as I know it would be at her house and a potluck kind of deal so a crazy amount of planning isn't needed as far as the actual shower.

    A potluck shower? Is there any way to avoid that? Decrease the guest list or something?

    That's just the way his family is. They even do it for weddings! Going to be interesting since I'm the only vegetarian they have ever met lol DHs mom is the youngest of 8 kids so all of his aunts are the age of my grandmother. They are all about the potluck lol
  • can you just fly instead? might give you more flexibility to not worry about driving that far.

    I was wondering the same thing. With gas prices these days it might be cheaper if you consider the gas, plus wear and tear on your car, plus physical and emotional strain.
  • I would also suggest flying if you can. I wouldn't travel that far well into the third tri but I wouldn't plan it too close to the NY shower for fear you may be too tired to travel.

    I'm doing a 6 hour drive to my family shower at about 30 weeks. That was the latest I felt comfortable driving that far. But it totally depends on how you feel.

    Just keep in mind that a normal 10 hour drive is going to stretch out to 12-13 if you're really pregnant, because you're going to need to stop every hour or so to stretch and to pee.

    Ah that's very true. I didn't think about all the stops. I thought about flying but my MIL made a point to say I'd need to drive to bring all the gifts back. I think she may go a little nuts lol My DH would come with me to help with the travel so I wouldn't be solo in the drive. That way I may be able to sleep through most of it.
