I work in marketing for a specialty insurance company. Not a lot of overtime, pretty family-friendly. Even so, if I thought DH would be on board, I'd definitely become a SAHM. My mom was and it was just really nice having her there all the time, even as I went through school. His mom has always worked full-time so we have split backgrounds on that. He might change his mind once he sees what the cost of childcare is!

I'm an aerospace engineer currently working in software design, too! I think there are quite a few of us these days. My male coworker was also an aerospace engineer before coming to this job.
For my first baby, I took 8 weeks of maternity leave and went back to work (at that time in the marine renewable energy field).
My advice: Go look at the actual cost of day care / nanny / whatever you're comfortable with. Compare that cost to you
