Puppy Woes

It's been a huge adjustment, but we really do love this puppy. I just forget how much work they are! We are going to start training soon and we're waiting for her final parvo shot before we start going to the park with her. So far our biggest issues have been peeing and chewing.

Obviously, potty training isn't going to happen overnight. We're taking her out every hour or two. However, she is the most unpredictable dog ever. Some days she pees right after drinking, other days it's at random. Some days she poops right after eating, other days it's a few hours. We started taking away her water at 8pm to stop her peeing in the crate. I just washed her crate pad again today. It's soaked. Why and how do I stop her from peeing her crate?

Chewing we are working with her on. We got lots of chew things, we are puppy proofing like crazy, and got bitter apple. I just gave her a knee cap on a recommendation from our pet store. She loves it. So now she's cappin' some knees. I just hope the puppiness of her ends in a few months. She'll be great once trained and house broken.

Any help for me?

  • Hi Nana! I bought my golden retriever from a breeder 6 years ago and when she came home with us she was 8 weeks old. She peed and pooped in the house constantly for what seemed for months. I think she was fully house broken by 3-4 months. It takes awhi

  • I'm sorry. For how many hours are you taking water away from the dog?

ILY Nana. I really do. Really really do. This was a really bad time for you to get a dog. You need to let the dog out shitloads more often and take him on more walks. End of st

  • Do you take her out to pee a couple times overnight? That might help. My terrier type dog [so similar traits to Corgi] took a good 6 months to potty train but then he's kind of a jerk. My lab cross was pretty much set when we got him at 4 months. Just

  • My mom thought getting a puppy while dealing with 2 toddlers was workable and that is how i got a 4 month old black lab at Thanksgiving. Lol.

My parents tried and tried to potty train him for weeks and nothing worked.

She should be going out every 15-30 minutes. How big is the crate? If its too big, she will continue to pee in it. A crate should be just big enough for them to stand up and turn around comfortably. If she pees on the blanket after that, I would take it a

Anyway, puppers needs to go out every thirty minutes. Overnight, in a small enough crate, she can go an hour for every month of age.

As far as peeing in the crate, how big is the crate? You can get a divider panel or just use a board or so
