Natural Birth

3rd Tri Fatigue and getting discouraged about going natural?

I'm having unusual 3rd tri fatigue, unlike anything I've ever experienced. I just had a crapload of testing done, including tests to confirm that I'm not anemic. The midwife and the attending at the hospital can't explain why I am so tired. It's not garden variety tired either, it's the kind of tired that is whole-body exhausted. I can barely muster up the energy to go to the bathroom. I've been housebound for almost two weeks and my husband and son have been doing everything. I no longer go to work.  I have tried going for walks, napping, a little caffeine. I drink tons of water all day. I've tried just about everything I can think to do, and nothing is helping.

I'm very discouraged at this point that I will be able to make it through labor and pushing. I feel very confident with my Hypnobabies training, and I'm not the least bit concerned about pain or inability to birth. At this point though, there is no way I'll have the endurance to make it.

Any advice?

  • When was the last time your iron levels were checked? How were they? Are you sleeping regularly at night?

  • I was also going to ask about iron. Is it possibly depression? As someone who has suffered from depression for many years, I know that fatigue is a VERY real part of it.

As for having the energy to give birth, I know it sounds cliche' but you wil

  • Hang in there!  I'm so tired too.  I feel like I've been tired for eight months.  But I'm hoping a surge of adrenaline will kick in when it's time.
