Read if you use prescription meds on your baby for eczema

Hello all,

My 20 month old DD has started sprouting eczema on her thighs.  As someone who has fought a 30 year battle with terrible eczema, I know what I can use for myself but I am wondering if doctors will prescribe prescription creams/ointments for a child as young as she is.  Her problem is minor at the moment and she does not seem fazed by it, but plain old Eucerin isn't clearing it up.  I plan to call her doctor soon but I just wanted to ask around here first.

Thanks all!

  • DS doesn't have horrible eczema but does have it. It was worse this winter. The pedi prescribed an ointment for him called Triamcinolone. We use as needed. You can put Eucerin or Aquaphor on over it.

We use an rx strength hydrocortisone cream. We also have an rx antibiotic ointment for when the eczema gets really bad. We do the hydrocortisone twice a day on any outbreaks and put Aquaphor or Cetaphil(for eczema) over it.

  • The doctor is having me out some over the counter cortisone cream on my son's cheeks and calves, under aveeno lotion. It's been working pretty well! He is 19 mos old by the way.

My little one gets it on her legs as well. We bought some tea tree ointment, they sell it at health stores. It really helps her a lot.
