Natural Birth

Re: Woo. What's your idea of "crunchy?"

Do you consider yourself a "crunchy/granola" person bc you chose to pursue a med free birth?? Why/why not?

When I was delivering Ds in hospital, my OB called me granola bc I declined the epi. It really made me irritated bc it made me feel like I was being dismissed as a "hippie" and wasn't being taken seriously.

But when I decided to have a HB with Dd, one of my MWs was referring to us as crunchy bc of our birth choice to deliver at home. She was wearing a North Face jacket, a Coach purse, and was playing on an iPad :) That made me giggle bc my vision of crunchy is more of a holistic/pure type person. Just wondering if you consider yourself part of the crunchy group based solely on your birth choices? Or is it a mix of all your choices including food, household products, etc?

I do not consider myself crunchy, but to most of the other mothers I know, I am VERY crunchy. I only know a couple other mamas in real life that are crunchier than I am, but it's not a label I give myself.

  • I'm actually annoyed that people in this post are calling BFing crunchy.  It is not.  It is just the best option for feeding one's baby (but not the only option) and it has nothing to do with being crunchy.
